For beginners in the recording world, you will definitely feel confused about what DAW is good for making music arrangements and sound recordings. Basically, it's a personal question to ask someone. It's like asking what food is the best. Of course, different people have different tastes in food. And that person's answer can also be different from your taste.
How to choose a DAW, especially for beginners, it's best to try first. For example, a friend says that DAW A is good, please try it for a while, a week or a month, and after that please try another DAW.
Here I will review some DAWs personally and technically:
1. Cubase
Cubase started as a powerful software in midi recording or midi editing. The features in Cubase are optimized for midi files. So if you arrange from many midi files, Cubase is your choice.
2. Cakewalk
Source
Like Cubase, Cakewalk also originally came from software to do midi work. Although now has switched to voice recording as well.
3. Studio One
Source
Studio One was born the later of the two DAWs above. Possibly because Studio One appeared later, it was able to optimize something that the previous DAW lacked. Interestingly, Studio One has a special page for mastering. While other DAWs are mixing and need to master with other applications, Studio One has a dedicated page for mastering.
4. Pro Tools
Source
Many people say it is the world standard for music production or recording. Because in 1989 all DAWs only recorded midi, while pro tools were already able to record audio, so they were widely used by professional studios at that time. But in its development, all subsequent DAWs can record audio. But because the average music engineer is used to pro tools, finally DAW has become an engineer's taste, as I stated in the opening earlier.
5. Ableton Live
Source
From the name, it can be seen that this DAW is more suitable when doing a live mixing process. Because live also features a lot of DJs, then Ableton Live is also widely used to produce electronic music (EDM). But for limited midi editing unlike the DAW already mentioned.
6. FL Studio
Source
FL Studio is also widely used by world musicians, for example, Alan Walker. The advantage of FL Studio is that its use is very simple, not too complicated just to display a sound. Because it is very easy to use, many people think this DAW is unprofessional. On the contrary, this DAW is widely used by the international music industry.
7. Reaper
Source
The advantage of the Reaper application is that it has a large community. Reaper is a flexible DAW customization. There are so many things that can be changed on the ripper, both in appearance, plugins, and others, so this DAW is very suitable for users who have a hobby of customization. In addition, the Reaper is also sold at a low price. This DAW is also full power for midi and audio
8. Logic Pro
MAC (not Windows) based Logic Pro DAW. At first Logic Pro was also a Windows DAW, then it was bought by Apple and installed on MAC OS. The advantage of Logic Pro in my opinion is a good display. Most of Logic Pro's built-in sounds are ready compared to other DAWs that still have a lot to tweak. The midi features of Logic Pro are also complete.
9. Garage Band
Source
Garage Band is a built-in DAW provided by MacBook. After purchasing the MAC OS, GarageBand is available, and that's great too. So if you don't want to buy another DAW, you can just use the default MAC.
That's my writing about my version of a good DAW. Hopefully, it will be a consideration for friends who are just starting out. To get more information from other DAWs, please, friends, you can search with the help of Google.
What a great overview. Thanks for your work.
