The tech people have available now is amazing. I was playing with some software synths that came with my Ubuntu setup and there's lots of options there. I want to find time to explore that are more. I was chatting to @nicklewis yesterday and he's into synths.

Thanks for the shout @steevc must chat some more about these things, we can do that at a future event but I’ll start posting more on Hive again pretty soon. There are a collection of plugins I’ve got my eyes on for the iPad, my favourite device for this kind of stuff besides the Ableton Move.
I tend to use Linux, but there are various music creation options. I've tended to use Ardour that can do MIDI and they now have some looping facilities. I will look into how you build a song with that.
Another multi platform DAW is Reaper. I’ve heard of Ardour and tried it out briefly on an Ubuntu laptop I’ve got. Trouble is I’ve ended up with many and for awhile I suffered from analysis paralysis. Have now settled on Ableton because I’ve got the Move, a great piece of portable hardware for laying down tracks with and when plugged into Ableton Live, it’s just magical.
