DanceWeekend with some 90ies Dance - building bridges between cultures is so important

As most know I try to cover nearly any music style, the 90ies had a phenomena called Eurodance / Eurotrash - a lot of the songs been produced in Germany, Netlerlands, Belgium and Italy. Today I found one I did not know before - Sweden had some interesting acts such as Dr. Alban or - but Dr. Bombay was new to me - enjoy or let me know in comments if you think this is rubbish (which is basis of a lot Eurodance from that period - hence some more in the following).

Dr Bombay - Calcutta (Taxi, Taxi, Taxi)

So Dr. Bombay is from Sweden, a country in the very North of Europe - bit background:

"Calcutta (Taxi, Taxi, Taxi)" is a song recorded by Swedish eurodance artist Dr. Bombay. It was released in 1998 as the lead single from his debut album, Rice & Curry. The song became Jakobsen's first major hit, topping the charts at number-one in Sweden and number 2 in Norway. In Denmark, it peaked at number 12. On the Eurochart Hot 100, the single peaked at number 31 in October 1998. The song is sung from the perspective of Dr. Bombay, an eccentric Indian taxi driver who is employed by his uncle and, despite his impaired vision and lack of a license to operate, loves to drive his taxi. Music & Media noted the song as an "Asian-flavoured poppy dance tune (try imagining Aqua with an Indian singer)" in their review of the song.

More Swedish Eurodance from the 90ies with cultural background

Dr. Alban probably used to be the most famous one who was present on any dancefloor these days with his tracks - the song above is a great one that also tries to "mind the gap" between cultures. He always was a frontrunner to make different cultture get along together. Other dance songs by Dr. Alban below:

Leila K - from Sweden - background Marocco

I loved her in my youth - the song belong was a killer on any dancefloor - perfect sound. Leila was born in Sweden, heritage from the North of Africa. Her real name is "Leila El Khalifi" - her dad used to be a driver of the local railway in Sweden after they migrated there. They had an interesting educational story with Leila being young and anti-parent stuff, dad sent her to Marocco for school, after one year she came back, left house of parents in made her career in clubs etc. She is still active in music with a range from rap, dance towards rock music,

Sort:

Haha. I remember this dude in the late 90s. I think he is part Malaysian, Swedish or something.

I started with Dr. Seuss, then I moved on to Dr. Dre. But somewhere along the way, there was Dr. Bombay. They sum up my music life. LOL.

Calacalacutta aaayooaaayoo.
Cheers!
