Originally from Guadeloupe, Malika Tirolien is already at home on all stages of the world. And not only as a musician and singer, but also as a composer and producer.
What is particularly remarkable is the way she underpins her excellent compositions with sophisticated lyrics. Add to this the great passion for music that Malika Tirolien always brings to the stage.
Aus Guadeloupe stammend, ist Malika Tirolien längst auf allen Bühnen dieser Welt zuhause. Und das nicht nur als Musikerin und Sängerin, sondern auch als Komponistin und Produzentin.
Was dabei insbesondere auffällt, wie sie ihre ausgezeichneten Kompositionen mit anspruchsvollen Texten unterlegt. Dazu gesellt sich noch diese große Leidenschaft für die Musik, die Malika Tirolien stets mit auf die Bühne bringt.
Even though she has been in the business for a decade, it was the album Family Dinner (originally by Snarky Puppy) that attracted a lot of attention in the jazz world. The single I'm not the one inspired many other artists to do a cover version. A Grammy Award was nothing more than the logical consequence. Malika Tirolien now lives in Montreal.
Obwohl bereits seit einem Jahrzehnt im Geschäft, sorgte erst das Album Family Dinner (ursprünglich von Snarky Puppy) für eine enorme Aufmerksamkeit in der Jazz-Welt. So hat dann auch die Auskoppelung I’m not the one jede Menge anderer Künstler zu einer Coverversion inspiriert. Eine Grammy-Auszeichnung war da nichts mehr, als die logische Konsequenz. Malika Tirolien wohnt übrigens inzwischen in Montreal.
She then took the musical wheel into her hands and released the debut Sur La Voie Ensoleillée, which she composed and produced. The success was immediate, and the album reached number 5 in the Canadian Jazz/R&B charts. Shortly after, she said goodbye to “going it alone” and toured the world with the nine-piece band BOKANTÉ. The group's album, What Heat, was nominated for the Grammys for Best World Music Work.
Im Anschluss nahm sie das musikalische Heft allein in die Hand und brachte das Debüt Sur La Voie Ensoleillée, welches sie komponierte und produzierte, auf den Markt. Der Lohn ließ nicht lange auf sich warten und das Album erreichte Platz 5 in den kanadischen Jazz/R&B Charts. Kurze Zeit später verabschiedete sie sich vom “Alleingang” und tourte mit der neunköpfigen Band BOKANTÉ durch die Welt. Das Album What Heat der Gruppe, wurde für die Grammys als bestes Welt-Musik-Werk nominiert.
However, Malika Tirolien remained musically loyal to the producer of BOKANTÉ, Michael League, and produced her second solo album Highsoul with him.
In 2021 (the pandemic turned out to be a brake), it was finished and delivered exactly what the title suggests—jazz with a good portion of soul.
Dem Produzenten von BOKANTÉ, Michael League blieb Malika Tirolien jedoch musikalisch treu und produzierte mit ihm ihr zweites Solo-Album Highsoul.
2021 (die Pandemie entpuppte sich als Bremse) war es dann fertiggestellt und lieferte genau das, was der Titel bereits andeutet - Jazz mit einer gehörigen Portion Soul.
