Story of Amitabha recitation saving life

in Buddhism3 months ago

In this talk, Venerable Fatzang retold his story of Amitabha Buddha name recitation saving his life.

Here’s the gist of it.

It happened when he was younger and new to Buddhism. One time, he was looking after his professor’s house when his professor was away. That night was a night of typhoon. He was petrified while sleeping on a bed in the helper’s room. Having learned about the Amitabha Buddha name recitation not too long ago, he decided to recite the Buddha’s name to help him stay calm and to aid sleep.

At one point the typhoon became very intense, but he continued to recite. According to him, he heard a voice telling him to get out, like “get out!” in between his recitation. Repeatedly.

Somehow he got off the bed and the unimaginable thing happened. A tree fell on the roof crashing his bed!

He could have died if not for the voice that asked him to leave.

This is a story depicting the unbelievable benefits of reciting Amitabha Buddha’s name.

Wow! The wonderful benefits of reciting Amitabha Buddha name, I find reciting this actually helps me to calm down and more focused.
Thanks for sharing this story.

Wow, that was a scary, yet inspirational story. In a typhoon, I don't know where the safest place will be. It was a good thing he listened to the voice, and was able to get to safety. I think anyone would become a believe if they experienced this themselves.
