The 50MM

in Photography Lovers3 years ago (edited)

I had just started getting more interested in photography, but I had limitations with my 5 year old camera and its standard kit lens. One of my favorite photographer Peter McKinnon had posted a video on the 50mm lens and how its cheap yet amazing. I looked it up on Amazon and I was super pumped to get one.

My family considered photography as a hobby of mine which would get me distracted from my studies, so I couldn't even think of asking them for a lens.

So I started saving from the money my parents send me every month for my college expenses, I literally started cutting down my food for 2 straight months, I used to have lunch around 4pm and dinner at 8pm with a daily expense of Rs 70 ($1) max and used to sleep off early. 2 months later I saved up 6K and lost 5KGs (ik it would've been cool if it was 6KGs), and the nifty-fifty was home, The Nikkor 1.8D 50mm manual focus lens! I was instantly in love with it the moment I locked the lens onto the body and peeked into the viewfinder, it was unreal for a beginner like me.

This lens was my best investment ever, and I knew this was indeed a game changer for me. If there's anyone who has a DSLR and wants to get started with photography, 50mm is a must buy lens. Nikon users, get the 1.8G for autofocus, manual focus is really hard for a wide aperture @1.8. I've had millions of out of focus shots. Although it costs a bit more, it is worth it.

Thanks to my childhood friend Irfan for this picture, this was actually shot on a 50mm lens as well.

Its always great to read this kinds of posts. Hopefully you'll share soon some of your work with that 50mm.

I had started too with a Canon 50mm 1.8, but my camera is an APSC, so in reality it works as a 90mm, last year I bought my first prime lens, a Sigma Art lens. And love it...

YES YES! I will be sharing more of my works on this platform daily, Super happy to see the appreciation I'm getting

and your works are really amazing, artists like you gives me hope that I can have a future in photography who started off similarly

It's a great lens! It was my first as well and it is still my go-to lens, I find myself pulling it out more often than the more expensive lenses. I wish the camera companies would make more quality mid/entry-level affordable lenses for those of us that aspire to become pros but can't afford that kind of equipment yet! I look forward to seeing your work.

It indeed is! I'm glad that I use lenses pros like you are still relying on. And yes, photography is very expensive, I too wish the same. It is very hard make up money for gears. I hope I make some from this platform!

Thank you! I'll be trying to post regularly, I hope you'll like them all❤️
