Hello, photography lovers! I am back after a short break with a new project that I'm starting. Whoever's been following me for a while might remember that I do a challenge like this almost every year (last time it was in August of 2022.). Let's first explain it and see what is the purpose behind.
This is the challenge I set to myself to
- further improve my photography skills through consistent effort
- get out of a slump, start shooting more often and become disciplined
- post more regularly on Hive
- really think about what I'm shooting, be more conscious about the whole process
- hopefully come up with some high quality, creative photographs
- visit new interesting places to capture
I am a creature of habit and if I don't challenge and self inspire myself with fun projects regularly, I tend to fall into a creative rut. A project like this always seems to spark the necessary fire in me and make the creative juices flowing. With each day I try to improve and have something worth showing. At the end of the challenge, I'll compile the work that stands out and reflect on the experience.
Here are the project guidelines:
- Post 15 photo blogs in 30 days
- Show at least 10 photos per blog, no matter how good they are
- Act as if shooting the film camera, one roll (battery) per day, limited number of shots, minimal attention to reviewing images on the LCD in real time
These days I'm quite busy with different projects but it's not an excuse to abandon my love for street photography. So I'll do my best to follow this through and not fail immediately. Hopefully this will be a fun challenge for both me and you. :) I'll be using my Fuji X-Pro2 and 35mm F/2 lens.
The idea to start this was intuitive and the decision sudden. Here are the results from day 1. After a freezing month of January where I wasn't keen on spending much time outside, the sun has finally come out and it looks like beautiful days are ahead. Let's make the best of it and have some fun!

A little tip I have is just take your camera with you everywhere. Throw on a versatile lens for where you're going and just keep that thing either in your hand or in your pocket the whole time. You'll shoot as you roam and go about your day.
That's a great advice! It used be easy for me while I used the compact Fuji X100F, since I've upgraded it to X-Pro2 which is chunkier it's always practical. But yeah, one can always use phone camera and photograph as they go. I have to get in the habit of capturing the every-day moments. I really admire that about you.
Im not really into taking pictures, Im really bad at it although I like looking at pictures from some one who knows what they doing, my favorites are the last three, really like how the shadow covers the rest of the place leaving just the women in the dark coat, shadow look like an overlay, very cool ✌️
Interesting! In conditions I like these when it's sunny and light comes from low angle, I like to play with reflections and contrast between light and shadows. Cool results are possible.
That's an interesting challenge to set for yourself and perhaps that will encourage more people to follow who want to improve their skills but don't know how. Practice is the key for sure :)
Yes! Whatever you do and enjoy doing, you have to do it passionately and not let distractions pull you away from creating meaningful content. I like to challenge myself like this and it's even more important when people of Hive are holding me accountable. :)
Well, it's a very good idea and I think I'll be very attentive because judging by the first outing... it's going to be a powerful thing.
Every time I've done this challenge (which is I think 4) it turned to be a huge success and game changer for me. So hopefully this month will be productive when it comes to photography. :)
