As attentive readers of my blog will know, the large district town of Wertheim am Main is not only located on the Main, but also directly at the confluence of the Tauber and Main rivers. As a result, people here are used to severe flooding. It is not uncommon for a large part of the old town to be under water. However, despite the incessant rain, we have got off quite lightly so far. But not without damage. Of course, the most endangered cellars were flooded and some passages in the riverside area were impassable and therefore closed. You can get a good overview of the situation from Kreuzwertheim in Bavaria.

die große Kreisstadt Wertheim am Main liegt - der aufmerksame Leser meines Blogs weiß es - nicht nur am Main, sondern direkt an der Mündung der Tauber in den Main. Daher ist man hier auch starke Hochwasser gewohnt. Nicht selten ist ein Großteil der Altstadt unter Wasser. Allerdings kamen wir trotz des Dauerregens bislang recht glimpflich davon. Aber nicht schadlos. Natürlich liefen die am meisten gefährdeten Keller voll und auch einige Passagen im Uferbereich waren unpassierbar und daher gesperrt. Einen schönen Überblick über die Lage kann man sich vom bayrischen Kreuzwertheim aus verschaffen.
Where the Tauber river flows into the Main river there is also an underground parking garage, which the locals affectionately call the submarine garage. This is because it was already clear at the planning stage that this garage would be under water even at low tide..

Dort wo die Tauber in dem Main mündet befindet sich auch eine Tiefgarage, die die Einheimischen liebevoll die U-bootgarage nennen. Denn es war schon bei der Planung klar, daß diese Garage schon bei geringem Hochwasser unter Wasser sein würde.
The new design of the so-called trade fair bridge, which previously had to be laboriously dismantled, was much smarter. The new construction can be easily raised and lowered.

Wesentlich klüger war man bei der Neuplanung des sog. Messebrückles, das früher immer mühsam abmontiert werden musste. Die neue Konstruktion lässt sich einfach hochfahren.

Das malerische Tauberufer ist auch bei Hochwasser wunderschön.
We are still galaxies away from high water levels here in Wertheim. But nobody needs monstrous floods either.

Von Höchsständen sind wir hier in Wertheim noch Galaxien entfernt. Monströse Hochwasserlagen braucht aber auch kein Mensch.

I live in a city in the mountains, and here there is no flooding problem because there is a small river running through the flat part of the city that has never overflowed.
Looking at your photos I can imagine the inconvenience that water can create.
The movable bridge is also interesting!
I hope there will not be more problematic floods in the future

Here in Wertheim, the inhabitants know that the floods come regularly. The situation here is annoying but not dramatic. Not yet. In northern Germany, however, the situation is much less relaxed.

Wie gesagt, bei uns geht es noch. Den Norden hat es wohl schlimm erwischt. :-(
Das viele Hochwasser ist schlimm. Bei uns in Mülheim an der Ruhr ist die Ruhr auch überflutet. Und bei Freunden ist jetzt mehrfach der Keller ausgepumpt worden.

Es ist wohl so, daß es den Norden dieses mal richtig erwischt hat. Das hochwassererprobte Wertheim kam bisher sehr glimpflich davon. Die Altstadt ist noch völlig trocken. Das kann hier ganz anders aussehen. Aber die Wertheimer wissen das und sind darauf eingestellt.
Ich hoffe, die Lage bei Euch bessert sich bald.
