Front headlight restoration

Hello, to the entire hive community, I want to present the reconstruction or restoration of some front lighting headlights for a truck, which were completely yellowed. These headlights were originally made of polyethylene and over time, when exposed to rain and sun, they turn yellow.

In principle, the important thing is to make a mold of the lighthouse to be restored to make the cut in acrylic, which this type of material remains one hundred percent transparent even over time, but durability is not guaranteed, since many materials are designed for a useful life and can wear out over the years.

the cut is made

Once the cut is made, a heat gun is used to shape the original mold. It takes patience to be able to bring it to the point of the figure that will remain at the base of the lighthouse.

It must be cut to the shape it will be attached to the vehicle body. We used a grinder, but any other tool can be used.
Keep in mind that the base of the headlights must be thoroughly cleaned before gluing them with any adhesive. In our case, we used silicone.

Without much detail, after gluing it to the base of the lighthouse, we expose it to the sun, so that it dries and is ready to be used.

Finally, a strip of paint is placed around the edges of the lighthouse to cover the acrylic glue stain.
