I had never seen life behind an analog lens, until recently. It was always my dream to take pictures with an analog camera, and it turns out that, a few days ago, while I was talking to my aunt to celebrate a big party, she tells me "you have to take the pictures", to which I answer, sarcastically: give me the camera. She, innocently, tells me that she only has a "roll around" camera; of course, she said it as a joke, but when I heard that I was surprised and told her to show me the camera immediately.
The camera is a Canon Prima BF800, and because of its model, it can't be very old, I didn't really look for its specifications. The only thing I did was to go downtown and buy some film and batteries. Being excited, the girl who took care of me also did some maintenance and gave me a slightly more professional, but still analog, camera to try out. Right after she finished her maintenance and when I put the film in, she explained to me how to use it, since it was a point and shot, she only explained to me that I could not open the camera since the film would burn.
I then went out to the city center to take photos. Out of focus and without knowing anything about lighting, I had one thing in mind: maybe I didn't know how to use an analog camera, but I do know how to take photos. Therefore, I know that light, focus, shutter speed and other technical aspects matter when taking a photo, but that's all, mere technicalities that they use to improve or enrich the most basic part of a photo, capturing the moment.
I took pictures of the streets, the vendors, the people on the street, my family, my pet, the sky, wherever I wanted to remember in my negatives. Seeing the world behind that lens blurred to the sides left me immersed, I loved it, and the fact of having a limit (32 photos per roll) and some uncertainty of not being able to see the photos gave me a touch of adrenaline that made me want to get the best of me in each photo.
Likewise, I had to wait a week to see the photos and most of the photos were too dark or with too much contrast, but the ones that were not... what happiness the ones that were not. I was so happy to know that I had taken those photos, that I had walked like a tourist in my city, showing joy in seeing the things I have always seen, looking for the best way to portray the everyday. Now there is no doubt that I want to continue, but that I will do it in a more meticulous way, with a clear idea of what I want, with the mentality that it's not just photos, it's an experience, it's the idea that it can go wrong and there's no turning back, or that you have to try harder when doing what you love.

Nunca había visto la vida detrás de un lente analógico, hasta hace poco. Siempre fue mi sueño tomar fotos con una cámara analógica, y resulta que, hace unos días, mientras estaba hablando con mi tía para celebrar una gran fiesta, ella me dice “tienes que tomar las fotos”, a lo que yo respondo, de forma sarcástica: pues dame la cámara. Ella, inocente, me dice que solo tiene una cámara “de rollito”; claro, ella lo dijo en broma, pero yo al escuchar eso quedé sorprendido y le dije que me mostrara la cámara inmediatamente.
La cámara es una Canon Prima BF800, y por su modelo, no puede ser muy vieja, la verdad no busqué mucho sus especificaciones. Lo único que hice fue ir al centro de la ciudad y comprar unos rollos y unas pilas. Al estar emocionado, la chica que me atendió también le hizo mantenimiento y dio a probar una un poco más profesional, pero, igualmente analógica. Justo al terminar su mantenimiento y al meterle el rollo me explico cómo usarla, al ser una point and shot, solo me explico que no podía abrir la cámara ya que el rollo se quemaría.
Salí entonces al centro de la ciudad a tomar fotos. De forma desenfocada y sin saber nada de iluminación, tenía una cosa en mente: tal vez no sabía usar una cámara analógica, pero sí sé cómo tomar fotos. Por ende, sé que luz, enfoque, velocidad de obturación y demás aspectos técnicos importan a la hora de sacar una foto, pero eso es todo, meros tecnicismos que usan para mejorar o enriquecer lo más básico de una foto, capturar el momento.
Le tomé fotos a las calles, a los vendedores, a las personas en la calle, a mi familia, a mi mascota, al cielo, a dónde sea que quisiera recordar en mis negativos. Ver el mundo a tras de esa lente difuminada a los costados me dejó inmerso, me encantó, y el hecho de tener una limitante (32 fotos por rollo) y cierta incertidumbre al no poder ver las fotos me dio un toque de adrenalina que me hizo querer sacar lo mejor de mí en cada foto.
De igual manera, tuve que esperar una semana para verlas fotos y la mayoría de las fotos estaban muy oscuras o con demasiado contraste, pero las que no, qué felicidad las que no. Me sentí tan feliz al saber que yo había tomado esas fotos, que había caminado como un turista en mi ciudad, mostrando alegría al ver las cosas que siempre he visto, buscando la mejor forma de retratar lo cotidiano. Ahora no cabe duda de que quiero seguir, pero que lo haré de forma más meticulosa, con una idea clara de lo que quiero, con la mentalidad de que no son solo fotos, es una experiencia, es la idea de que puede salir mal y no hay vuelta atrás, o de que tienes que esforzarte más al hacer lo que amas.

Felicidades por esta experiencia que pudiste vivir con una cámara analógica, También ,e alegra mucho que pudieras comprar los rollos. Cuando veía clases de fotografía logre practicar con una analógica, de verdad que la calidad es otra. Me agradaron mucho tus fotos, felicidades.
Es algo increíble que siempre quise hacer.
