Star Fortress

According to official information, the Peter and Paul Fortress was laid at the same time as the foundation of the city in 1703.
If you look from above... the walls of the fortress have a star figure.

And here there are more questions than answers. From the point of view of defense, such a fortress was not of serious importance. And similar star fortresses have been built for more than one century around the world.

As history says, this fortress was built under tsars Fyodor Ioannovich and Boris Godunov in 1595-1602, and this fortress was built on an older foundation - the star of the times of Grand Duke Rostislav Mstislavovich, built in 1142.
Needless to say, such a construction required knowledge, technology and huge resources, both human and material.
This could not be done by a loner with an artel of illiterate peasants.

In addition, like the whole of old St. Petersburg, this fortress is buried in the ground with the first floors.
Maybe Peter didn't build it, but dug it out?

we have quite a lot in germany
which are not maintained
