
Best I can tell, this is a common snapping turtle. It was just sitting in the water in the The Mile River in Attleboro.

This river, sadly, not as clean and pristine as it sometimes looks. Some human detritis can be seen here.
It was a really hot day - the turtle was just sitting there.




I wonder if the turtle was just relaxing, or hunting at the same time. Or perhaps it was too warm to move - but if some kind of pay showed up, it probably would not have missed the opportunity.
These jaws, by the way, are powerful enough to snap a twig at least 1 cm in diameter - or to bite off a human finger.
In my childhood, I used to see turtles, frogs, reptiles in the place where I live. Today, we have destroyed their habitats.
