How time flies! I've been posting something about light painting here every Sunday for two years now and there's still no end in sight.
Wie die Zeit vergeht! Jetzt poste ich hier schon seit zwei Jahren jeden Sonntag etwas über das Malen mit Licht und es ist noch kein Ende abzusehen.

The Cover Image
Naturally, I am presenting a suitable cover picture for the two-year anniversary on HIVE. In the picture, I would like to present myself with a magic two. So I had the idea of realising this with a glass ball. What's more magical than a glass ball? 😜 The next thought was, how do I get a two into the glass sphere? Well, I still had the LED matrix that I used for my work

had built. I had to adapt the programme of the LED matrix a little. That was done quickly. What's more, I couldn't realise the idea on my own. Geane supported me in realising it according to my instructions. She brought me into the picture with the help of a DIY scanner. I think she did a really great job. Thank you Geane!
Natürlich präsentiere ich zum zweijährigen Jubiläum auf HIVE ein passendes Titelbild. Auf dem Bild möchte ich mich mit einer magischen Zwei präsentieren. Da kam mir der Gedanke, dies mit einer Glaskugel umzusetzen. Was ist magischer als eine Glaskugel? 😜 Der nächste Gedanke war, wie bekomme ich eine Zwei in die Glaskugel? Nun, da hatte ich noch die LED-Matrix, die ich für mein Werk

gebaut hatte. Das Programm der LED-Matrix mußte ich etwas anpassen. Das war schnell erledigt. Hinzu kam, dass ich die Idee nicht allein umsetzen konnte. Geane unterstützte mich bei der Umsetzung nach meinen Anweisungen. Sie brachte mich mit Hilfe eines DIY-Scanners ins Bild. Ich finde, das hat sie wirklich toll gemacht. Danke Geane!
The Set
The set was quickly configured. I often use the music stand as a height-adjustable table on which I set up parts of the set. The perforated plate was very helpful here as a fixing point for the glass sphere. In addition, the mist could be blown through a hole behind the glass sphere. The fog was necessary to make the sphere more visible in the picture.
Das Set war schnell konfiguriert. Den Notenständer verwende ich oft als höhenverstellbaren Tisch, auf dem ich Teile des Sets aufbaue. Das Lochblech war hier als Fixierpunkt für die Glaskugel sehr hilfreich. Ausserdem konnte der Nebel hinter der Glaskugel gut durch ein Loch geblasen werden. Der Nebel war notwendig, um die Kugel besser im Bild sichtbar zu machen.
I still had the stand on which the shot glass with the ultrasonic fog machine was mounted from my last set in the studio. I positioned it underneath the music stand. I fixed the LED matrix behind the glass sphere with black tape. I started the recording with a focal length of 16mm, in the direction of the glass sphere, as shown in the picture above. The matrix flashed once for 200 ms. Then I covered the lens with my baseball cap and swivelled the camera by 90° and changed the focal length to 35mm. I then removed my baseball cap from the lens, put it on, got myself into the right position in front of the camera and Geane brought me into the picture with the help of the DIY scanner.
Das Stativ, an dem das Schnapsglas mit der Ultraschall-Nebelmaschine montiert war, hatte ich von meinem letzten Set noch im Studio stehen. Dieses positionierte ich unterhalb des Notenständers. Hinter der Glaskugel fixierte ich die LED-Matrix mit schwarzem Tape. Die Aufnahme startete ich mit einer Brennweite von 16mm, in Richtung Glaskugel, so wie im Bild oben zu sehen. Die Matrix blitzte einmal für 200 ms. Dann deckte ich das Objektiv mit meinem Basecap ab und schwenkte die Kamera um 90° und änderte die Brennweite auf 35mm. Danach entfernte ich mein Basecap vom Objektiv, setzte es auf, brachte mich in die passende Position vor der Kamera und Geane brachte mich mit Hilfe des DIY-Scanners ins Bild.

It all sounds very simple, but unfortunately it wasn't. The positioning was not easy to realise, although I had placed light markings on the floor. Sometimes you end up empty-handed. Sometimes you forget to change the zoom on the lens. Sometimes the fingertips are missing because the scanner was in the picture. After a few attempts, we finally achieved usable results.
And there we have it again: "Light painting is not a pony farm", as @lichtkunstfoto likes to say in such situations. 😂
Klingt alles ganz einfach, war es leider nicht. Die Positionierung war nicht einfach zu realisieren, obwohl ich mir am Boden Leuchtmarkierungen gesetzt hatte. Mal steht man mit leeren Händen da. Mal vergißt man den Zoom am Objektiv zu ändern. Mal fehlen die Fingerspitzen, weil der Scanner im Bild war. Nach einigen Versuchen erzielten wir dann doch brauchbare Ergebnisse.
Und da haben wir es wieder: "Lightpainting ist kein Ponyhof", pflegt @lichtkunstfoto in solchen Situationen dann zu sagen. 😂

What Is Light Painting?
Light painting is a unique art form. As a rule, the darkness is illuminated by the artist with various light sources and traces of light are painted into the picture with various lighting tools. Various techniques are used, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. When using ND filters, this technique can also be used in daylight. All images were taken during a single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cropping and possibly adjusting the white balance, the images are not processed on the computer.
Lichtmalerei ist eine einzigartige Kunstform. In der Regel wird die Dunkelheit mit diversen Lichtquellen vom Künstler ausgeleuchtet und Lichtspuren mit diversen Lichtwerkzeugen ins Bild gemalt. Dabei kommen verschiedene Techniken zum Einsatz, wie Kamerarotation oder andere Bewegungen der Kamera während der Belichtung. Die kreativen Möglichkeiten sind nahezu unbegrenzt. Bei Einsatz von ND-Filtern kann diese Technik auch bei Tageslicht angewand werden. Alle Bilder wurden während einer einzigen Belichtung aufgenommen. Abgesehen vom Entrauschen, Schärfen, Beschneiden und eventuellem Anpassen des Weißabgleichs werden die Bilder nicht am Computer bearbeitet.

Sehr coole Idee mit der Glaskugel und sehr gut umgesetzt. Ich hatte vor einigen Jahren mal was Ähnliches probiert, mit dem Resultat, dass die Kugel fast aus dem Fenster geflogen ist. 😂

Die Idee kam mir während der vierstündigen Heimreise. Zu Hause angekommen, aufgebaut und ...funktioniert! Naja, mit den oben beschriebenen Problemen. Ich nehme beim nächsten Versuch zwei Stative. Dann wird's aber für zwei Personen eng im Studio.
