Soviet Mega-Artifact

IMG_7399.jpg

Republic of Bashkiria, Beloretsk-Inzer highway. A surviving monument from the Soviet era is a huge pickaxe with the inscription "To the Builders of the Komsomol". Most likely, this refers to the builders of the railway, the path for which was cut through the mountains and rocks. Near the monument there is a small observation deck with magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. And the inscription on the stone in the last photo is
"There are many roads in the world
But we fell in love with one
Railway
Beloretsk - Chishmy"

I love that the Soviets created such monuments all over. You'd stumble across them in the middle of nowhere and immediately feel their power. Truly impressive stuff.
