In 2022, we suddenly heard a chirping from our grapevines and shortly afterwards discovered a bird's nest between the grapes. The blackbird had made itself at home and had obviously successfully bred.
In the first few days there was not much to see but then little hungry heads peeked out of the nest and called for their mother.
Out of curiosity and also to be able to take better photos, we set up the ladder so that we could take a look into the nest from above.
And here they are. Four tiny blackbirds that consist half of beaks and have a huge appetite.
The mother was always nearby and cursed excitedly when we approached the nest.
Unfortunately, this is where the story ends. The cat also had good ears and so it happened, as it sometimes does in nature. At least that's what we assume. Sadly, at some point it was suddenly quiet, the birds had gone and the cat was probably satiated. I'm sorry that this story doesn't have a happy ending, but that's nature.

Not at all, that's the real life. We also had fish in the pond and a snake. Similar story.
yeah, this is why my kitty doesn't get free roaming privileges. And also has a collar with a bell on to warn things. So far as I know he's only ever caught insects.
Also baby birds are funny looking. Have you ever seen a young eaglets?

You have a well-behaved cat. Not so in the neighbourhood of the garden, there's even a wild-cat that visits us.
By wild-cats do you mean like bob cats or some such?

Exactly. According to a map I found they should not live in my area. But they do not care about maps. And yes, you might call it European racoon. 😁

Yes, that was a good year for them. Sadly we are not experienced enough to make liquid gold from them. More liquid... bronze.
How do you manage them at the end of the season? I have never had the chance to try growing grapes, but have seen them shaped into a T on vineyards. lol sorry to be so off topic from the op, but maybe just an idea for a future post.

We tried to make wine from it but it turned out more like vinegar. Not tasty. So they get eaten. We just leave the vines on the scaffolding at the end of the year. No matter if frost or not. They are fine the next year.
