One final trip before 2025...

Well, I've managed it, I managed to get one last trip in before Christmas and most of all the New Year. One of the reasons for the trip is that it was my parents 53rd wedding anniversary, we've all had a rubbish year and I can say after getting back that it really did my mum and dad good, we only stopped for a couple of nights, but we had a great relaxing time.

I of course took the camera ;-)

(One of the piers at Whitby)

Seeing as my parents got married in December, the weather is always hit and miss, I'm no sure what happened here, but we missed the rain, although it was extremely windy and I've never seen the seas at Whitby as rough, the waves were quite spectacular, white horses galore.

I had a wonder around Whitby waiting for the sunrise on the first morning, the sky was clear which I was a bit gutted about as I wanted to get some red clouds, however, I shot the picture of the world famous Whale's Jawbone, a feature that has been at Whitby since 1853, as Whitby once had a massive whaling fleet. The current jawbone was donated by Whitby's sister town Anchorage in Alaska, back in 2003 or so I read.

The first night I went out, it was cloudy, but it did make for some great night photography, especially with light reflecting off the clouds as I'd gone out a little bit late oops.

I thought to myself I'd get out at sunrise, but still didn't get the shot I wanted as the sun was rising in the wrong place, so thought I'd wait until sunset.

I was hoping it was going to kick off with red clouds, sadly this was as much as it was going to do, but I still like the shot.

This however was the shot I wanted, it's nothing original and hundreds if not thousands of photographers have gone in this tunnel to get a shot, I do love the depth to this one, I thought I'll go back when it gets dark but I ballsed that pic up... see below.

I like the shot but it was so hard trying to get it in the pitch black, at least it's in focus, I did want to get the sky, but didn't want to chop the path off, but it's another shot to work on for the next time I'm in Whitby.

As mentioned earlier, the sea was very rough, I've never seen it like this before, but I was so surprised with the stupidity of people, if you look on the far pier, you can see some torch lights, well, that was people out there fishing, there are railings on there however, the stone part to get there has no railings on, and people were out there while the water was splashing over the pier, it really was fierce and only slightly better when it got light, you really can't educate some folk.

Anyhow, we had a great time in the cottage we hired and it was such a nice little break for my parents, and I for one can't wait to go back again lol.

If you have read to the end, I'd like to thank you and I really hope you have enjoyed my photography, shot using a Sony A7iii with a Sony 24-105mm F/4 G lens.

I'd just like to wish each and everyone of you a very merry Christmas and a happy new year, all the best for 2025.
