Bridge over Icy Waters

in Photography Lovers4 months ago (edited)

Every two years or so, I must photograph this awesome bridge. It has been two years, so here we go. This is the Engine bridge, which spans the icy Bow river, built about a hundred years back or so. I love this bridge! Normally one can see the Mountains in the background, but on Saturday, the weather just wasn’t cooperating so well, and with all the fog, we could barely see the extraordinary mountains that are there. Nonetheless, I was able to capture a few photos. The fog certainly gave it a mysterious look, actually it was quite cool. What do you think?

As someone who learned the basics of engineering trusses in drafting and design, I can really appreciate these old bridges. 130+ years ago, an engineer sat with pencil in hand to calculate the span, the weight it would hold, wind and seismic concerns, water flow, and the materials available to design a structure that would serve a very utilitarian purpose for as long as practicable.

A work of art really, this bridge. Amazing to see up close and then cross to the other side.

tte idea of bridges continuing to serve even after their original purpose is done also appeals to me both practically and nostalgically.

I understand that. Bridges are so special.

"EPIC"... That's the word I can use to describe these photos... And in black and white they are "OVERWHELMINGLY EPIC"... A big round of applause for you, my talented @daveks friend!...

Is there a fisherman on the other side?

Not at the moment, but plenty will show up when things warm up.

Love old bridges and these shot's are fire. It gives the area with mountains and bridge another version of seasons, as you say a mysterious look. Have a blessed one my friend.

Indeed, kinda a surreal look you might say. Thanks for looking.

I can see the mountains far off and yes the fog does give it a mysterious look, it also gives one a surreal experience.
You have so many beautiful places.

Neat isn’t it, and surreal. Thanks for looking.

Awesome bridge with cool and peace environment. Good time for you to getting chance for visiting here

Was fun, but would have been better with blue skies.

Yes, blue colour is symbol of peace

Engine bridge is quite a stretch and despite its age, it's still very useful giving us this cool ambiance.

A very sturdy bridge, don’t make them like this anymore.

I love the clouds like a mist in the background, very nice. Amazing how a bridge that old is still standing, but they built it right obviously! Looks kind of cold out there though... I like the black and whites more with the bridge, making the pictures look like they match the age of the bridge. Nice!

Yes, the black and whites really shine with this kind of scenery. I prefer the black and whites over the colours on this one. Thanks.

As always Daveks, love your photos and support. Always nice when I recognize places in my feed, happens a lot with your photos. Thanks!

Thanks, always fun exploring Alberta!

What a stunning shot! The icy waters beneath the bridge create such a serene yet mesmerizing scene.
Nature's beauty is captured perfectly.

Thanks. Nature, the gift that keeps on giving. Thanks for stopping by.

I do not see the photos. The front end that I am using is hive.blog
