Wycliffe Butte

DSC08969.jpeg

Last June, we had the pleasure of going to East Kootenay, around the Cranbrook region, British Columbia. On our first day, we went to an area called “south star”. A place popular for both Summer and Winter activities (hiking in Summer and Cross country skiing in Winter). Hiked for about 3 hours, had a great time — but it was quite hot and dry. Here on day number two, we drove out to a place called Wycliffe Butte. The hike started with a small hill to climb, followed by a decline, then this trail to the top. The reward was a nice valley view of the region. All in all a relatively easy hike without much elevation gain. I’d rate this hike at about a 6/10, a good “warm up” hike. Thanks for stopping by.

What a nice place with a beautiful meadow, a few sparse pines, and a nice little bluff as well. I love the mountains and pines in the distance bringing more color and diversity to the landscape. Those make for some great hikes, not a lot of elevation gain and lots of great scenery. A good warm up for a more intense climb!

It's always sad to see those diseased trees slowly dying like that, but it is the way of the world. Pine trees don't live forever either! Will you be making a return trip out that way? I know you still have so much left to see in Canada!

This hike is likely a once and done, but east Kootenay is a place I'll be returning to again and again. Just love it! Thanks as always for stopping by.

I appreciate the visual journey of your photographic work. I am drawn to the autonomy of the shapes of trees in the natural landscape.

Yes. Yes, I am irresistibly drawn to the “Colour/Black and White” photography community.

It has stunning view and I wonder the tree still alive even at the top was dry - the tree is really thriving.

As far as I could tell, the tree is alive!

The valley view is really good, I wonder, have you ever been in winter there? All white with snow must be great!

What a strange tree, half dry and half with leaves above, on 4th picture

Never in Winter. Kimberly ski resort is close by though, but haven't skiied or snowboarded in eons.

Your travels and adventures inspire, thanks for sharing.

Have a lot of fun doing it. Thanks for looking.

The place you're visiting offers stunning views, a beautiful trail, and a tempting climb. The trees at the summit are equally beautiful, each with its own unique character.

Indeed, it was a good hike, not one of my favourites, but still worthwhile. Thanks as always.
