I've been wanting to do a particular shot for a few months now, but with one thing after another I've not been able to do it, whether it be work getting in the way, a full moon, or the weather.
So the shot I have in mind is to do a star trail over either an ancient iron age wall or some great rock formation that you get around the Peak District in Derbyshire.
I was off work last week and the forecast on the phone said "Clear!", so I got my camera stuff together and decided to head out over on the moors, I wanted to go in daylight to get to my location, then walk back when it's dark, after I've got the shots.
I got to my location, and what do you know, it was cloudy, I kept checking the phone and it was saying "clear" all the time I was there, I thought while I was there though, I'd head up to the vicinity of where I wanted to be as the light was rather nice, but as you can see, it was thick cloud.
I was kind of gutted, but also kind of happy in a way as it was a bit breezy and it was certainly a bit nippy up there, we got to the top of the hill and decided to make a drink on my little Pocket Rocket stove, but disaster, we'd forgot the milk, so had to drink our tea without milk, I ended up wasting my tea as it tasted weird with metallic cups and bottled water.
As the light dropped we decided to head back to the car, as the sky didn't look like it would clear any time soon, as we walked down, the weather app updated and said that it would be clear after 5pm, I decided to carry on walking rather hanging around as the forecast has been wrong all day.
As we got back to the car, we decided to stop at a pub and get a coffee to warm up, the pub in mention is literally 5 minutes away from where we were parked, I pulled into the car park, got out of the car, and low and behold, the sky was clear, you just couldn't make it up lol.
I've got plenty of time to do this shot, so hopefully will do it when the weather is a bit wamer.
