Maybe they burn it for the same reason farmers burn their fields, to more quickly (and cheaply) clear it and also to help fertilize the ground. Maybe like you guess, that is thought to help with the aquatic life after the river expands. Hmm... don't know. I don't think they burn any of the rivers around here. There is one river nearby that is dammed a few kilometers up. In winter they never let any water through so it drys up to just a small stream. But I don't think they burn anything. I'll have to go look more closely.

Anyway, great photos! Sakura are always great photos! 😃

That makes a lot of sense, because it’s a decent size to clear and the soil is soft.
I don’t think they’d do this by a River, but with a lake it kinda makes sense. I’ll ask someone at work today, I’ll be surprised if no one knows.
