Winter Clouds Coming In ~ Skies of Japan

Taking a photo walk, these clouds jumped out at me.

On the Pacific Ocean side of Japan, we usually don't get a lot of snow in winter and the skies are mostly clear the entire season. That said, clouds can roll in sometimes. We just had a not-insignificant snowfall a few weeks ago, and it has threatened again several times since.

Usually I prefer monochrome. I edited this to mimic a red filter, which makes the sky dark and clouds pop. The red filter is why Ansel Adam's classic photos are so dramatic. I also applied a slight selenium tone to further the effect. I did these things in Silver Efex Pro, by the way, which is just about my favorite app, and is the one that many in the business swear by when making monochrome photos.

But here's the color version, just in case you like color in your photos.

It is very interesting. If it's black and white, I use my sense and imagination, smell, the texture of nature more than the colour version. Also, I try to use my brain to analyze photos. I feel dynamic if it's black and white. I like monochrome too.
