One late Autumn day Persephone was walking in a field when Hades seen her. Hades kidnapps Persephone taking her to the underworld against her will...

During her time in the underworld she was subjected to cruel acts. It was Hades attempts to make Persephone love him. Love based on fear not of her own free will.

During that time, the Earth grew cold and the vibrant flowers that once bloomed withered away. Persephone was gone, so was all the beautiful life on this plane. Her mother Demeter mourned the loss of her daughter.

Eventually Persephone was able to leave / escape the underworld and return to Olympus. Her mother was thrilled for her return and immediately the weather changed and flowers started to grow.

However, her mother deeply concerned, asked Persephone if she ate anything during her time in the Underworld with Hades. For her mother knew if she did, Persephone's soul would be bound there.

In deed she did. Persephone was forced to eat the sees from a pomegranate. When her father Zues heard of this he was angered. Hades not wanting to go head to to with his brother they formulated a plan.

Persephone would spend 1/3 of the year in the underworld and the remainder on Earth. It is to be believed thats why we have seasons. Persephone's time in the underworld is when we have our late Autumn through Winter and when she returns to the Earthly plain we have Spring again.

It is a stark reminder that life comes and goes in cycles. That there is light at the end of darkness.
