Been a weird summer
This summer has been pretty odd. It is normally hot as hell here during the summer, but for some reason, this has been a cool and wet summer. The strangest part is having this weather while the rest of the world seems to be super hot.
Hurricane Hillary hit California a few days ago and it brought some pretty cool storms up this way. The past week or so, the sky here has been full of clouds and we have been getting moisture pretty much everyday. It's actually been pretty nice because we need it. I am nervous about the weather the next few years though because I am expecting it to get really dry and hot.
Our wildflower garden sure has loved all of this moisture though and it is full of life.
My wife and I have been talking about tearing up a large portion of our front yard and planting more wildflowers. We are so sick of having a yard of grass and we would prefer to have a yard that welcomes nature.
One of the coolest things about growing wildflowers is that you don't have to do anything to them. Once they pop up and start growing, you don't really have to do much of anything for them to thrive.
I hung a hummingbird feeder in my front yard and made some nectar with just water and sugar and within a day, I had about 5 hummingbirds find it and they stop by all day long getting something to drink.
I am working on getting them used to me and my camera so that I can get some better shots. I took these shots while lying on my back directly underneath the feeder. I laid there for about 30 minutes trying to get some shots of them, but every time I moved my camera into position, they would hurry and fly away.
We have new flowers opening up pretty much everyday. These ones remind me of hibiscus flowers that we had in Japan.
I usually take these kinds of shots with my 100mm macro lens, but I decided to try shooting with my 70-200mm and I really like the way that they turned out.
I can't get as close with this one because the focus distance is pretty far, but I really like how it compresses the background. It makes a really cool bokeh effect.
Love the details of the hummingbird that can be seen through your pictures. Considering how tiny it is and how hard to notice its beauty, pictures like yours help us deal easier with this :D

How long did you have to wait to get those hummingbird shots? They turned out awesome!
Not long. They are usually taking drinks all day long. The hardest part was just laying there and trying to not move a lot when they did show up cause they get scared so easily.
Hummingbirds get away too easy, man. I hope you can get them used to your camera. I'm trying to photograph dragonflies too, I can't say I'm very successful because every time I bring my camera a little bit closer they fly away XD
Dragonflies can be pretty tricky to get pictures of. They get so scared of any movement and fly away.

You know… here in Ireland we haven’t had even a summer yet. Still waiting. It is much colder they say and raining everyday. I think we are skipping it this year and heading already into autumn. I don’t mind after having lived in Spain for many years. This colder weather is so welcome. But 16 degrees Celsius during daytime is a bit cold for a summer hehehe 🤭 normally it would be over 20 here.

I can see how a lot of people are complaining about heat as a result of the summer but look at you enjoying the cool weather. The sky looks very beautiful too.

Thanks. It's been an odd summer here. We were hot for about a month, but other than that it's been pretty nice.
I miss the days I could just go out and take some random shots of stuff even on my shitty phone camera at the time. Finland had some beautiful nature all around similar to your place.
I am sure where you are has some really cool stuff to take pictures of. Finland would be a fun place to visit one day. Hopefully my wife and I can start traveling again soon.

They are the fairies of the bird world. They are so fun.

Yeah weather is extremly strange. In Germany it‘s the same. Currently I am in Greece and its sooo hot.
Getting more wildflowers seems to be a great Idea especially with a nice Macro lens. And I know you got one :D
Hopefully we can start reducing the amount of shit gets pumped into the atmosphere and our world can heal itself. It's getting too hot all over.
Yeah hopefully. Germany got into “green” mode completly. But now we have energy problems 🤣

Whenever this kind of weather happens the clouds and sky look very beautiful and the way we see you have done very good flower pictures it also looks very beautiful and clear.
