on the rocks of Rakke

here is a second set of shots from a particularly nice evening visit to Rakke Vest in Norway last July. i posted the first set a month ago but the evening was so alluring that i took too many shots to include in a single post. these photos are presented in chronological order, the first from 20:14 and the last at 21:29.

in the 1930s this area was taken into use militarily as a firing range. the Germans took it over and expanded the military facilities which were never used in battle though much of the construction work was done by russian prisoners of war. after the war the norwegian military continued to use the area as a firing range until the 1990s. by 2002 the military had demolished many of the structures and returned the area to civilian use and today it is an exceptional natural coastal pearl well worth visiting in any weather.

Fantastic that you've brought us new photos of this place, which I loved as soon as you showed it!
It must be peaceful to sit on one of those rocks and contemplate the calm sea...
