Parallels

As I mentioned yesterday, this week I visited two new exhibitions, one of which was an amazing photography exhibition you can read about it here, while the other was a very unusual one and I'd like to share my experience about it with you today.

Parallels.jpg

It was a solo exhibition of Dalma Nagy, called Parallels. Each exhibition is unique and interesting, but in a different way. This was as well, but at the end, I think I left with more questions than answers.

The mandatory first glance inside the gallery, which gives you a rough idea about what you're going to see. When I saw this, knew I've seen some of the works somewhere and usually I can remember which one and where, but not in this case. Anyway, let's get to it and see what this exhibition has to offer visitors.

Blue Field

Thinking back to what I saw at the exhibition, I can tell you, the artworks were extremely varied which was kind of surprising and you'll see why.

This was a nice watercolor landscape, which I'd be happy to have, for the lovely colors and the calming effect that radiating.

Beginning of Summer

This I liked even more, for the blurry effect that lets the viewer's imagination work out the details. I find it a very good idea to blur the outlines.

Tempora Mutantur

Photo printed on canvas I think.

Tempora Mutantur

At this point, after five artworks, I hope you see how diverse the artist's abilities are, and this is not all.

For those of you who don't know, Tempora Mutantur is in Latin and means times are changing.

I remember here, I took a step back and try to figure out if this is the watercolor version of some of the previous photos and it is. Actually both are and I like the sepia tones.

Now you have three pairs of photo - drawing and you can go back to see how much the watercolor paintings resemble the original photos. The truth is, there's no was to get an exact copy and the goal is not that either, but I think the artist did an excellent job here.

Diptichum

A diptych in art refers to a work consisting of two panels, typically hinged together, that are meant to be viewed as a single piece.

We're changing style here and honestly, it's not just that it's not my style or area of interest, but I don't understand it either.

Depressing

Interestingly, this piece doesn't seem depressing to me. It's an interesting one and had to get closer to have a closer look, to see how it was done.

Have a look and tell me how it was done.

Phenomenon (left)
Omen (right)

The one on the left was the one I recognized I've seen it before, but can't figure out where. Then there were others I've seen already and most likely you're going to recognize one, but I'm not going to post that today as this post is already getting long.

In each and every post of mine, I'm trying to be honest and share my view and understanding, what I think, how I see things, but here ... I must admit, I was struggling to understand what I'm seeing or better yet, I was struggling to understand what the artist meant.

Usually every exhibition leaves me with some good memories, it's like I can connect with the artworks and I remember them mostly for one reason or another, but this was a tough one. Somehow I feel like I had no connection with the works, I could not connect with them. Is it a problem? No, not at all as art is not for everyone and we all have our preferences, there's no human to like it all.

To be clear, this is my shortcoming, I admit that and it's not like I take it as a failure, it's just strange, but normal.

However, the technique of most of them is amazing. The last few are like a riddle to me as I can't figure out how they were created exactly, so hats off for the artist.

So at this point I'll let you tell me what you think, how you feel about the works and which one is your favorite.

With the Tempora Mutantur the artist did a good job "copying" the photo that's sure

Honestly I can't like either that rounds, I mean that's not even abstract art where you can try and guess... I can't see why depressing should resemble depression or give you depression...

My pick here : Blue Field

There are works and art as varied as people and we don't have to connect with everything, but I found it interesting when you approached that texture, it looks like pen and paint, although I don't think it is... or is it?

The first watercolours are my favourite... they gave me peace, a lot of peace. Thank you for that!🤗
