Limassol is the clear winner of the Cypriot split. Famagusta, formerly the most important international port on the island, is currently not recognized by any country except Turkey and its harbour is therefore almost abandoned. Tourists had avoided the occupied regions for decades and returned to the northern part just recently. Limassol has somehow managed to attract both large cargo ships and tourists, however weird it may sound. It is currently the most important cargo port, yacht harbour and arguably even seaside destination on Cyprus. Besides, In addition, it is strategically located for those who dare to explore the Troodos Mountains. We prefer mountains to tourist hotspots, so we stopped in Limassol just to refresh ourselves and catch a bus to Troodos village in the heart of the mountains.
Limassol je jednoznačným vítězem rozdělení ostrova. Famagusta, kdysi nejdůležitější mezinárodní přístav na Kypru, dnes není oficiálně uznávaná žádným státem kromě Turecka, a tak je její přístav prakticky opuštěný. Turisté se pak okupovaným regionům až donedávna vyhýbali. Limassolu se nějak podařilo nalákat i velké nákladní lodě, i turisty. Jakkoli se ta kombinace zdá zvláštní. Aktuálně je Limassol nejdůležitějším nákladním přístavem, přístavem pro jachty, a pravděpodobně i nejdůležitějším letoviskem na Kypru. Kromě toho je strategicky umístěným výchozím bodem pro každého, kdo se chce vydat do pohoří Troodos. A protože máme radši hory než turistická centra, v Limassolu jsme se zastavili jen na skok - občerstvit se a vyrazit do vesnice Troodos v samém srdci stejnojmenného pohoří.
The promenade. If I’d turn right and take a picture of the sea, half a dozen of large cargo ships would be shot. I didn’t like the view, though. This one is way nicer, ain’t it?
Promenáda. Kdybych se otočil doprava a vyfotil moře, na fotce by byl půltucet velkých nákladních lodí. Ale ten pohled se mi nelíbil. Tenhle je lepší, ne?

Just like any other major Mediterranean island, Cyprus was strategically important. There are many Fortresses and watchtowers all over the island. Limassol castle is one of the largest ones.
Stejně jako ostatní velké ostrovy ve Středozemním moři, Kypr byl strategicky důležitý. Proto je na něm spousta hradů a strážních věží. Limassolský hrad patří k těm největším.
There are excavated and historical artifacts lying all around the castle. Just like that... Well, a cat was guarding them at least.
Všude kolem hradu jsou vyskládané archeologické vykopávky a další historické předměty. Jen tak... No, alespoň je hlídala kočka.

After trying https://diamantidesyachting.com/ last summer, I can confidently say the answer is no. Cruising along Cyprus's coastline aboard a private yacht gave us access to hidden coves, crystal-clear waters, and total relaxation. It felt like a luxury hotel on the sea — highly recommended if you want something unforgettable without the usual tourist bustle.
