Originally we had no plans to visit Chamonix but as it happened, we did and I'm glad we had time to do that! Chamonix is a city, or should I say a town? Im not sure exactly. It's a resort area located in eastern France, near the junction point of France, Switzerland and Italy, at the base of Mount Blanc. The highest mountain of the Alps.
When we left our ski resort from 3 Les Valles, France. We needed to drive back to Switzerland, Geneva, where we rented a car and needed to board a plane. We had a lot of time until the departure so we were able to make a detour. We decided to visit Chamonix and drive to Switzerland from there.
Unfortunately, we didn't have sunny weather so we were unable to see the mountain tops but the views were still amazing. Chamonix is surrounded by 1500m+ high mountains on every side. There are also some ski resorts but on the Chamonix level which is 1000m above sea level all the snow had melted already. Most of the houses in the area are accommodations for the visitors of the resort.
We had a walk through the main town area and I snapped some photos on the way.
Somewhere near the Chamonix is the highest mountain of the Alps which reaches up to 4800m above sea level.
There is a river that flows underneath and through the city, which looks pretty cool.
That pink building is a restaurant. We visited this one but we only wanted to get some dessert because nobody of us was hungry enough for a big meal. As we found out, we couldn't eat dessert only. It appears that it's against their code and you must order a main food before you can get a dessert. So we still got some big sandwiches but I wanted no dessert after the meal I had anymore 😅.
Really awesome was that we were able to see a glacier, at least part of it. Its called Des Bossoms glacier. I have always been fascinated by glaciers and love to see these.
After we spent about an hour and a half in CHamonx, it was time to get back in the car and start driving toward Switzerland and the airport. I am glad that we had time and got to visit this place, it really is located in a unique location.
Have you been there before ?
Don't forget to participate in my monthly weather guessing game here and you might win 10 HIVE. The game is open until the 17th of May.
That is so ridiculous. Something similar happened to me in Barcelona. I went to a restaurant because I liked how the place looked and wanted to order some wine and a dessert. They told me that I have to order food to be served, so I thanked them and left. Then I wrote a review on every possible medium that came to my mind 😂 I got sooooo angry. These restaurants in touristy places are ALWAYS full and they make such fuss when you want to order something small..
It's a pity that the weather wasn't better, but those mountains are still impressive. I have never been to Chamonix, but it reminds me of Interlaken. It's also a small town/big village in mountains from where you can approach Jungfraujoch.
Thank you for sharing!
Yeahh, totally ridiculous! I guess yeah, its a way to make more money but at the same time enforcing these rules wont please the customers. We didnt choose a new place because we were short on time but if we weren't then we would have left too.
I have never heard of Interlaken before, I have to look it up!
Wow, I loved them all! Good job @greddyforce 🙌!
