I took these photos in October 2013 on the Hohe Wand Plateau in Lower Austria, around 70km to the south of Vienna. Whenever it's foggy in the valley there is a good chance that the peaks of Hohe Wand reach above the fog. It's just a 15 min ride from my place so I often take the opportunity to get this view from above the clouds. The scenery can be breathtaking especially during the sunrise and the sunset.
Hohe Wand derives its name, which means High Wall, from the steep rock faces on its south and southeast side. The 8 km long plateau is the easternmost foothills of the Alps, the highest peak (the Plackles) attains a height of 1.132m above sea level. Hohe Wand is not only appreciated by hikers but also by climbers due to its numerous climbing routes and Via Ferratas of all difficulty levels. It's also a great place to learn and practice paragliding.

Sunset, like sunrise are the most striking parts of the day.
With these low clouds, the atmosphere is definitely surreal, like being in a fairy tale!
Let's also say that the Alps, as a mountain range, has a morphology that lends itself very well to certain special settings!
