Yesterday, I went on a short hike in the Höllental Valley in Lower Austria. I spotted a particular location on a steep rock that looked like an ideal launch point for a FPV-drone flight toward the summit of Schneeberg.
I'd never flown from this exact spot before, nor had I ever stood on that specific rock. It's called Turmstein (Tower Rock), a well-known limestone tower popular among climbers. The main rock face consists of striking 20–30 meter vertical walls, but for me it's only accessible by taking a significant detour - no marked trails lead directly up there, so I had to navigate using GPS.
Eventually, I found a clear, open area not quite on Turmstein itself, but on a neighboring ridge just behind it. From there, the entire scenery unfolded perfectly in front of me.
I took my time to carefully plan the flight path, studying the terrain to identify where I could safely fly and where I couldn't. As always with drone flights, I had to keep the drone within visual line-of-sight to have a reliable signal.
I captured one truly amazing flight. As usual when doing long-range flights in unfamiliar terrain, I felt quite nervous throughout, but the views made it all worthwhile.
