Traveling the Western US - Meeting with friends and Light Painters for collaboration and creative ideas.
For the past weeks, I have been a bit off here for multiple reasons. One is me traveling in Utah and Colorado with some friends.
Now I want to start sharing some of the stuff that ended up on my camera. Finally I found the space and time to download the images and well now I have internet to share it with you all.
In den letzten Wochen war ich hier aus mehreren Gründen etwas abseits. Einer davon ist, dass ich mit ein paar Freunden in Utah und Colorado unterwegs bin. Jetzt fange ich mal an mit euch in paar Bilder zu teilen, die auf meiner Kamera gelandet sind. Endlich hab ich die Zeit gefunden, die Bilder herunterzuladen, und jetzt gibts auch Internet, um sie mit euch allen zu teilen.
It all started with the Idea of another Meteor Jam. Dan Roberts and I was talking to do another one but smaller this year. Quickly I decided to book a flight ticket and let things happen. We decided we would get some great night sky in Moab. Dan booked a cool apartment and together with some friends we made a road trip from Denver to Moab.
Beyond that no further plans but life guiding me on what to do next. You'll see.
Alles begann mit der Idee eines weiteren Meteor Jams. Dan Roberts und ich sprachen darüber, dieses Jahr ein weiteres, aber kleineres MeetUp zu machen. Schnell beschloss ich, ein Ticket zu buchen und die Dinge geschehen zu lassen. Wir entschieden uns für einen großartigen Nachthimmel in Moab. Dan buchte ein cooles Apartment und zusammen mit ein paar Freunden machten wir einen Roadtrip von Denver nach Moab. Darüber hinaus gabs keine weiteren Pläne, einfach freestyle.
The Spot
That is the spot we found to be good for what we wanted to do. What you see above is also a quick Camera Rotation test. The white smearing effect come from the clouds. The shot is taken way after the moon was up and lit the entire area. So once I was set up I wanted to feature the clouds first before anything else.
Das ist der Ort, den wir für das, was wir tun wollten, als gut empfanden. Was Sie oben sehen, ist auch ein schneller Kamerarotationstest. Der weiße Schmiereffekt kommt von den Wolken. Die Aufnahme erfolgt lange nachdem der Mond aufgegangen ist und das gesamte Gebiet beleuchtet hat.
Getting there.
Part of any Light Painting adventure is of course the path itself. Very important is the location scouting. Of course that works best during the daytime. Here are some impressions.

Zu jedem Light Painting Abenteuer gehört natürlich auch der Weg selbst. Ganz wichtig ist das Location Scouting. Am besten funktioniert das natürlich tagsüber. Hier einige Impressionen.
Quickly we see so many potential subjects for the night. Yet we have to be thoughtful about restrictions in the area for any light pollution.
Schnell fanden wir so viele potenzielle Fotossubjekte für die Nacht. Wir mußten jedoch über mögliche Einschränkungen für jegliche Lichtverschmutzung nachdenken.
The further you get away from the street we thought the better.
An old tree always works during the night.
We explored a few areas in and around Moab, Utah, and ended up also at Dead Horse Point.
After the scouting trip, we packed all of our gear and some snacks to get out into the night. This time one vehicle was well enough.
Nach der Erkundungstour packten wir unsere gesamte Ausrüstung und ein paar Snacks, um in die Nacht zu gehen. Dieses Mal war ein Fahrzeug gut genug.
The Clouds
The moon was so strong I did not even use the head lamp much at all. No need. So the clouds were so bright. Then I tested the exposure time and the effects of a filter that Dan gave me. Loved the effects it gave me.
Der Mond war so stark, dass ich nicht einmal die Stirnlampe benutzte. War einfach nicht nötig. Die Wolken waren also so hell. Dann habe ich die Belichtungszeit und die Wirkung eines Filters getestet, den Dan mir gegeben hat. Gab richtig coole Effekte.
Camera Rotation
First I started with simple 180° two-step Rotations. The foreground was so nice and dark that it worked out super nice.
Zuerst habe ich mit einfachen 180° Drehungen in zwei Schritten begonnen. Der Vordergrund war so schön dunkel, dass es super schön geklappt hat.
You see the main shot which was a four-step 90° rotation. Not closing the lens in between or during the rotation. That way I could see some circular cloud drag in the images. The entire process just took 51 seconds exposure time at ISO 400. I did use the Laowa 12mm F2.8 Zero D.
Das Hauptbild, ist eine vierstufige 90°- Kameradrehung. Das Objektiv habe ich nicht zwischendurch oder während der Drehung abgedeckt. Auf diese Weise konnte ich in den Bildern einen kreisförmigen Wolkenzug sehen. Die gesamte Belichtung war 51 Sekunden bei ISO 400 mit dem Laowa 12mm F2.8 Zero D Objektiv
After that, I was after some more freestyle and more random results so I started more or less free-hand rotation without perfectly timed stops. So that's what you see here.
Danach wollte ich mehr Freestyle und mehr zufällige Ergebnisse, also begann ich mehr oder weniger Freihandrotationen ohne perfekt getimte Stopps. Das siehst du also hier.
Camera Rotation is what?
As I have shared with you in many of my posts about Camera Rotation. Yes, it is just what the name suggests. The camera is being rotated during the exposure, sometimes in steps sometimes in a continuous motion while doing so I also light up the scene.

Wie in einigen meiner Posts beschrieben ist Kamera Rotations Fotografie genau was der Name schon meint. Die Kamera wird einfach während der Belichtung gedreht und dabei wird das Subjekt ausgeleuchtet.
