Main Hall of Torre del Comte de Fígols - Urbex Part II.

Exploring the shadows of the main hall

As you hopefully saw a few days ago I went to Barcelona where I met up with Xiao Yang. The second location we visited was the Torre del Comte de Fígols which is located about an hour and a half outside of Barcelona.

Today I share with you my favorite Light Painting shots of the night. On the side, you get some more graffiti. The specialty here is that for these Light Paintings I really had to run up and down the stairs to get to the rooftop of the building and back down where the camera was.

Here is the one that i can show in landscape mode.

The featured shot was taken on the first floor of the building more or less in the center of the main hall that leads all the way to the rooftop of the building. To create the shadow effects used the window frames of one side to cast shadows on the opposite side.

So that means I ran up to each story and circled the entire floor. While doing so I was throwing the light to the other side of the hall and cast the shadow of the window frames to the other side.

Just have a closer look.

Schaut mal genau hin.

Check Xiao Yang's website and her amazing art.

What were the settings?

What you see is a featured Light Painting is a single 307-second loooooong exposure time photograph. The camera was always set to ISO 100 and the Lens to F11.

Important to notice here is how you get the shadows. Make sure you don't move too much the position of the light. If you want more hard shadows. I did not want perfect lines but also to get some light in the darker areas.

Just setting up the camera and working on the composition. Are all the angles working?

For this shot, I did not run up all the way to the top but walked around the edges of the room and lit up straight up.

This was I think the 3rd attempt to understand the situation and light conditions, already thinking of color and how the shadows may come out.

Not just perfect yet but on the way to what was in my head.

To get the crossing shadows on the ceiling I had to shed the light from each corner of the rectangular rooftop. To understand this you may go back to the first shot and remember what you see in the next shot. That would be the angle I was shining the light from.

This is what the structure looked like from the side. Already a cool subject by itself.

Get to the Location

20220423_224238_red.jpg

Like I mentioned before it was super easy to get to the place since it had no fences no difficulties to get there.

Super cool Location. I would do this one any time again.

Another cool post buddy, its interesting to show how you were problem solving and recording the different effects of your lighting. I might have to start taking a few set-up shots to give examples of what different lighting does to a particular subject. Was going to start trying to capture a little bit of video too, only time will tell. Peace.😎

It has become a bit of a habit and I must say it also helps me get more structured as well.

This turned out super awesome!

Thanx mate. Always happy when it turns some heads. Glad you are a regular visitor to my blog 🙏

Yay! 🤗
