Results of my last Camera Rotation Light Painting session

The summer is coming to an end and the nights arrive earlier. This is the time I hope for more Light Painting to come. Here is one of my first home sessions in a while.

I got this little Plasma generator off the internet somehow. It was sitting there for some months and now it was time to play around with it.

To add some cool feature I choose a blue-ish 'bowl" from "fundamentals berlin". The bowl never became a bowl but hey that's another story.

Here I want to share my results with you. Please tell me which ones you like the most.

Der Sommer neigt sich dem Ende zu und die Nächte kommen früher. Ich hoffe also auf mehr Light Painting. Hier ist eine meiner ersten Home-Sessions seit langem. Ich habe diesen kleinen Plasmagenerator irgendwie aus dem Internet ergattert. Dann lag dat Ding einige Monate herum und jetzt war es Zeit, damit herumzuspielen.

Um ein cooles Feature hinzuzufügen, habe ich eine bläuliche „Schale“ von „Fundamentals Berlin“ gewählt. Aus der Schale wurde nie eine, aber hey, das ist eine andere Geschichte. Hier ist was geschah:

Plasma Flashes

Funny little thing. I do love the effect and with the nobs you can change intensity and frequency of these little Lightnings.

Lustiges kleines Ding. Cooler Effekt und mit den Knöpfen kann man Intensität und Frequenz der Blitzdingstas ändern.

The Set Up

I put that little generator on a small stool and covered the base with black cloth. Then all i had to do was putting the camera on the rotation rig and then just about 50cm away from the Sparks.

Den kleinen Generator auf den kleinen Hocker , dann noch den Sockel mit schwarzem Stoff abdecken, die Kamera 50cm entfernt aufs Rotationstool und dann kanns schon losgehen.

The Eye

Here I kept rotation the camera while the plasma generator was flashing around. then I lit the bowl only a few times when the camera was 90° tilted. For that I used orange and blue.

That was a pretty cool start already.

Hier habe ich den Plasmagenerator angeschaltet und die Kamera rotieren lassen und die Schüssel nur ein paar Mal geblitzt, als die Kamera um 90° geneigt war. Ich habe Orange und Blau verwendet.

More Trails

Now I changed my strategy to get more light trails. First two rotations with the plasma generator on. Then the light on the bowl to complement the composition. So ideas is: More dragging the light. So I kept on some lights one while moving the rig in small steps and also moved relatively fast and dynamic to smear the light effects in the final light painting image.

Strategie geändert! Alles für mehr Lichtspuren. Zuerst zwei Rotationen mit eingeschaltetem Plasmagenerator. Dann das Licht auf der Schüssel, um die Komposition zu ergänzen. Also ließ ich das Lichter an, während ich das Rotationsrig in kleinen Schritten bewegte und dann wieder relativ schnell und dynamisch bewegte, um das Bild zu verwischen.

Here i forgot to cover the little metal pin while lighting the bowl during the rotations. So the light reflected each angle. So that way you can actually figure out how often and from what angle the light came.

Hier habe ich vergessen, den kleinen Metallstift abzudecken, während ich die Schale aus verschiedenen Winkeln in der Rotationen ausleuchtete. Dadurch wurde das Licht nur aus einigen Winkeln reflektiert.

Hands off!

Here is now the last and most complect composition for the night.

Step 1: Hold the hand above the metal pin and light it up. (cover the pin for that!) Step2: Turn on the plasma generator and spin the camera slowly two full rounds. Step 3: light the bowl in orange and blue from two angles around 90° and 270° ish.

The entire thing was done in a 55 seconds single long exposure with the 50mm TTArtisan 50mm 1.4 lens at an apperature of F16 and the Camera set at ISO 1250.

Hier ist nun die letzte und komplexeste Komposition für den Abend.

Schritt 1: Halte die Hand über den Metallstift und beleuchte ihn. (Decke den Stift dafür ab!) Schritt 2: Schalte den Plasmagenerator ein und drehe die Kamera zwei Mal 180°. Schritt 3: Beleuchte die Schale orange und blau aus zwei Winkeln (ca. 90° und 270°).

Das Ganze entstand also in einer einzigen 55 Sekunden langen Belichtung mit dem 50mm TTArtisan 50mm 1.4 Objektiv bei Blende F16 und der Kamera bei ISO 1250.

EXPLAINED

Camera Rotation is what?

As I have shared with you in many of my posts about Camera Rotation. Yes, it is just what the name suggests. The camera is being rotated during the exposure, sometimes in steps sometimes in a continuous motion while doing so I also light up the scene.

Prinzip Kamera Rotation Light Painting?

Wie in einigen meiner Posts beschrieben ist Kamera Rotations Fotografie genau was der Name schon meint. Die Kamera wird einfach während der Belichtung gedreht und dabei wird das Subjekt ausgeleuchtet.
