Even more rare as Tigers
During my visit to the Zie-Zoo I of course saw more than just the Prairie Dogs. In Zie-Zoo they have a breeding program for an beautiful creature that is now even more rare as Tigers.
Imagine walking through the forests of Southeast Asia and suddenly encountering a pack of wild dogs. Dogs with a striking reddish-brown coat that sparkles in the sun. If you saw that, you can almost be sure it would be the Asian Red Dogs. The dogs are also known as Dholes. Unfortunately, this will a very rare thing to happen that you will encounter these dogs in the wild.

Aren't they sweet?
When you see the photos, you immediately understand why I, as a true dog lover, think this is a beautiful animal. And why I really hope from the bottom of my heart that this beautiful animal can be released back into the wild so that their population can increase again instead of declining even further. In my opinion it would be an eternal sin if we also let this beautiful animal go extinct. Fortunately, there are zoos that think the same way, and have set up a special breeding program for this.
Originally this is a wild dog species that occurs in South Asia and Southeast Asia. They are not true dogs, but their own unique species, the only member of the genus Cuon. These wild dogs live in packs, and most packs consist of 12 to 15 dogs.
The coat of the Asian Red Dog can vary in color from dark red to brownish yellow. In addition, they all have a characteristic dark tail and a light belly. This beautiful coat is not only beautiful to look at, but also helps protect the dogs from the elements. The thick and fluffy hair protects them from the cold during the colder months and provides protection from the sun during the warmer months. If I see them lying like this, I would prefer to lie down between them to cuddle with them. Although I do know that this would not be such a wise choice. Because this creature, no matter how cute the appearance may seem, is a real predator.
And their hunting behavior is not the least. They hunt in packs, using their sharp teeth and powerful jaws to capture their prey. They hunt a wide variety of animals from small rodents and deer to even buffalo and wild boar. There are even several cases of these dogs attacking Tigers, Leopards or Bears. And now that I know that, I think I should forget about cuddling with these dogs for a while. I don't want to end up as prey.

Incredibly social, and they don't bark or howl!
But while these Asian Red Dogs are often seen as dangerous predators, they certainly have a softer side too. They are incredibly social and communicate with each other using a wide variety of sounds, from soft squeaks to grunts and growls. But unusually enough, these dogs do not bark or howl. Hmmm, they're becoming attractive as pets again... LOL!
I mean, my dogs bark at me like crazy on some days when there's a lot of life around the house. And if I let them sit inside and go outside to see what's going on, then they're not afraid to cry while they have to wait. A very attractive fact that this Asian Red Dog does not bark or howl.
But no, these dogs cannot be kept as pets. Cuddling is also not an option, so I will continue to enjoy the pictures I made of these beautiful animals. Don't take risks that are not necessary, and a wild animal is not a pet.

They are not pets, they have to keep the ecosystem healthy
These Asian Red Dogs also have an important task in their ecosystem. They help to keep their ecosystem healthy by hunting by keeping the amount of prey in balance. Unfortunately, human intervention has once again disrupted the ecosystem. Due to habitat loss and poaching, these beautiful wild dogs are threatened in their existence. I said it before, this animal is now rarer than the Tiger, and we all know what it is like. Not so great!
Fortunately, we can still enjoy these animals in zoos, and thanks to the special breeding programs hopefully soon more and more in the wild.
