Galle Fort Of Srilanka (Part 6)

Hello everyone,
I told you in the previous blog that I will bring the blog I prepared about Galle Fort in parts. Below is another part of it. I have already published the first part of this. My apologies that I don't have enough hive power to post a large blog at once.

This is a building that was used as a gunpowder store during the Dutch colonial period.

Kodigala War Loft

A small outpost was built by the Portuguese in the 16th century on this large and high natural rock. The stone cliff was connected to the fort wall and developed as a war loft by the Dutch. It was named by the Dutch as the Kodigala War loft because the Dutch flag was hoisted using a very tall mast. This flag was used to signal Allied sailors to enter the port of Galle. The base of that Kumba tree still remains today. It is also said that the two sides exchanged messages from the sound of gunshots. The British built Sri Lanka's first lighthouse at this place in 1848. This lighthouse was made of tinplate metal. This lighthouse was destroyed in 1936 due to a sudden fire. The circular base of the lighthouse carved into the rock is still preserved. In 1943, there is evidence that the British had installed 20mm Olicon anti-aircraft guns on this battlement during World War II.
