PYRAMID

Good afternoon, good morning, good evening friends of night photography. After we had made the bridge unsafe, I travelled to the pyramid the next night together with @stepko and @candelart. This time we were joined by Hans Roufflair. After a hearty welcome and a bottle of beer, we began to explore the pyramid and the surrounding area. Although @stepko and I had been there several times before, the other two gentlemen had not.

Guten Tag, guten Morgen, guten Abend Freunde der nächtlichen Fotografie. Nachdem wir die Brücke unsicher gemacht hatten, fuhr ich in der nächsten Nacht gemeinsam mit @stepko und @candelart zur Pyramide. Dieses Mal gesellte sich noch Hans Roufflair zu uns. Nach ausgiebiger Begrüßung und einer Flasche Bier begannen wir die Pyramide und die Umgebung zu erkunden. @stepko und ich waren zwar schon mehrfach dort, aber die beiden anderen Herren noch nicht.

Hans bravely confronted the atom from the other universe. In the end, it turned out well. Nobody was harmed, even though we were a little scared at first when we saw the huge object approaching us.

Hans stellte sich dem Atom aus dem anderen Universum mutig entgegen. Letztendlich ist das auch gut ausgegangen. Niemand ist zu Schaden gekommen, auch wenn wir das riesengroße Objekt im ersten Moment mit etwas Angst auf uns zukommen sahen.

I didn't like the light object so much the first time I tried it. It was also a bit large for my taste. I also found the brightly lit tree trunk behind the pyramid a bit distracting. It distracts from the actual motif. So we repeated the picture. First I lit the stencil with the atom. In the second step, I then lit Hans with the DIY Light Scanner and illuminated the pyramid and the forest with the Emisar D4K. I let the camera run for a few more minutes to get longer star trails in the image. I already liked this image better. However, I had forgotten to illuminate the entrance area of the pyramid with red light. The tree trunk was also too brightly lit. I'm a bit out of practice.

Beim ersten Versuch gefiel mir das Lichtobjekt nicht so gut. Es war für meinen Geschmack auch etwas groß geraten. Außerdem stört mich der hell beleuchtete Baumstamm hinter der Pyramide etwas. Das lenkt vom eigentlichen Motiv ab. Also wiederholten wir das Bild. Zuerst beleuchtet ich die Schablone mit dem Atom. Im zweiten Schritt beleuchtete ich dann Hans mit dem DIY Light Scanner und leuchtete die Pyramide und den Wald mit der Emisar D4K aus. Um noch etwas längere Sternenspuren im Bild zu haben, ließ ich die Kamera noch einige Minuten laufen. Dieses Bild gefiel mir schon besser. Allerdings hatte ich vergessen, den Eingangsbereich der Pyramide mit rotem Licht zu beleuchten. Außerdem war auch hier wieder der Baumstamm zu hell beleuchtet. Ich bin etwas aus der Übung.

We'd rather not talk about the next attempt. Not only had I forgotten to adjust the aperture, I also unintentionally painted traces of light into the picture during the lighting.

Über den nächsten Versuch reden wir lieber nicht. Nicht nur, dass ich vergessen hatte, die Blende zu verstellen, hab ich dann auch noch während der Ausleuchtung ungewollt Lichtspuren ins Bild gemalt.

So let's start again from the beginning. In this attempt, it worked halfway as I had imagined. There was certainly room for improvement here too, but I wasn't travelling alone after all. So the other Light Painters were finally able to realise their picture ideas, which they will hopefully present to you here soon.

Also nochmal von vorne. Bei diesem Versuch hat das dann so halbwegs so funktioniert, wie ich mir das vorgestellt hatte. Auch hier gäbe es sicher noch Potenzial für Verbesserungen, aber ich war schließlich nicht allein unterwegs. Also konnten endlich die anderen Light Painter ihre Bildideen umsetzen, die sie euch hoffentlich hier bald präsentieren werden.

WHAT IS LIGHT PAINTING?

Light painting is a unique form of art. The darkness is illuminate by the artist with diverse light sources and light traces are paint into the picture with various light tools. Various techniques are use, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during the exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. All the pictures were taken during one single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cutting and possibly adjusting the white balance, the pictures are not processed on the computer.
