The Tower - Light Painting on HIVE

THE ABANDONED AIRFIELD

Every airfield needs a tower. Somehow the building doesn't look like what I imagine a tower to look like. But I don't know much about airfields either.

Dominic was our model for this picture. In his hands he held two RGB torches with 20 centimetre long diffusers from the 3D printer. I lit Dominic with the DIY Light Scanner, shone the Emisar D18 and red colour filter behind him towards the camera and then lit the tower without the colour filter. Swen had placed the blue light at the top of the tower. It was a blue Convoy S2+ with a diffuser.

The first version you see here was a bit too bright for me. Somehow it doesn't fit so well with this demolished lost place.

After that I turned the tower upside down. During a single exposure, I rotated the camera 180° around the optical axis.

Finally, we moved to the other side of the tower. I first lit the trees with the Emisar D18 and green colour filter and then lit the tower without colour filter. Now that I'm writing this, it sounds so simple somehow. But it wasn't. It took me three attempts. Somehow I'm also a bit out of practice when it comes to illuminating such large buildings. Especially it's not so easy when there's bright, big graffiti on the dark bricks.

And here again from above. On the left you can see the tower. The fire brigade was housed in the building on the right.

Und hier nochmal von oben. Links ist der Tower zu sehen. Im rechten Gebäude war die Feuerwehr untergebracht.

WHAT IS LIGHT PAINTING?

Light painting is a unique form of art. The darkness is illuminate by the artist with diverse light sources and light traces are paint into the picture with various light tools. Various techniques are use, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during the exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. All the pictures were taken during one single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cutting and possibly adjusting the white balance, the pictures are not processed on the computer.

Cool, my fave is the 4th one with the green lighting on the trees. (Is it me or is the voting on posts lower than it was?)

Thanks mate. It looks like the voting is lower. I have no idea why.

Beautiful set mate.
