Hello friends of cultivated light painting. Today I'm showing you some pictures I took with an old Soviet lens, the Industar 61L/Z (Индустар-61 Л/З). The lens has a focal length of 50 mm. The maximum aperture is 2.8. Like pretty much all Soviet-produced lenses, the lens is made entirely of metal and is therefore virtually indestructible. I don't know how old my copy is. My guess is 40 years. Mechanically, everything runs smoothly, even if it looks quite worn from the outside. The special thing about this lens are the aperture blades. 6 curved blades provide the star-shaped bokeh. I am not aware of any other lens with this special bokeh.

The lens was manufactured with an M39, M42 and Pentax mount. I fitted an adapter with a compensating lens for Nikon F to my version with M42. The close-up limit is 30 cm. The magnification is therefore 1:1.25. So it can definitely be used as a macro lens, which is good for my small coins.

Hallo Freunde der gepflegten Lichtmalerei. Heute zeige ich euch einige Bilder, die ich mit einem alten sowjetischen Objektiv aufgenommen habe, dem Industar 61L/Z (Индустар-61 Л/З). Das Objektiv hat eine Brennweite von 50 mm. Die größte Blende ist 2,8. Das Objektiv ist, wie so ziemlich alle Objektive aus sowjetischer Produktion, komplett aus Metall und somit nahezu unzerstörbar. Ich weiß nicht, wie alt mein Exemplar ist. Ich schätze mal 40 Jahre. Mechanisch läuft alles butterweich, auch wenn es von außen schon recht abgenutzt aussieht. Das besondere an diesem Objektiv sind die Blendenlamellen. 6 geschwungene Lamellen sorgen für das sternenförmige Bokeh. Mir ist kein weiteres Objektiv mit diesem besonderem Bokeh bekannt.

Hergestellt wurde das Objektiv mit M39, M42 und Pentax Anschluss. An meiner Variante mit M42 habe ich einen Adapter mit Ausgleichslinse für Nikon F montiert. Die Nahstellgrenze liegt bei 30 cm. Der Abbildungsmaßstab ist somit 1:1,25. Es kann also durchaus als Makroobjektiv eingesetzt werden, gut für meine kleinen Münzen also.

I shone several torches on the coins. I used various Convoy S2+ with coloured LEDs, an Emisar D4V2 with a small Beautydish and the Ruys Lightpainters torch. I had attached the latter to a bundle of black glass fibres. The torch was in flash mode. In this mode, it lights up in the previously selected brightness and frequency for 5 ms at a time. Frequency is not quite correct in this context. The pause between the individual flashes is changed. I then rotated the camera around the optical axis during the exposure.

Ich leuchtete die Münzen mit mehreren Taschenlampen ins Bild. Zum Einsatz kamen verschiedene Convoy S2+ mit farbigen LEDs, eine Emisar D4V2 mit einem kleinen Beautydish sowie die Ruys Lightpainters Taschenlampe. Letztere hatte ich an einem Bündel schwarzer Glasfasern befestigt. Die Taschenlampe war im Blitz-Modus. In diesem leuchtet sie in der zuvor gewählten Helligkeit und Frequenz für jeweils 5 ms. Frequenz ist in diesem Zusammenhang nicht ganz korrekt. Es wird die Pause zwischen den einzelnen Blitzen verändert. Während der Belichtung habe ich die Kamera dann um die optische Achse gedreht.

As I had opened the aperture of the Industar to 5,6 and the distance to the coins and the fibre optic tool was small, all the torches were set to a low brightness level. This is the advantage of torches with Anduril UI or the Lightpainters torch. They have many levels or even stepless ramping from a few lumens up to 2000 or more lumens. Most normal torches would be unsuitable for such images because they are still too bright even at the lowest setting. In strobe mode, most torches always shine at full brightness.

Da ich die Blende des Industar auf 5,6 geöffnet hatte und der Abstand zu den Münzen und dem Glasfaser Tool gering war, waren alle Taschenlampen auf eine kleine Helligkeitsstufe eingestellt. Das ist der Vorteil von Taschenlampen mit Anduril UI oder der Lightpainters Taschenlampe. Sie verfügen über viele Stufen oder sogar stufenloses Ramping von einigen wenigen Lumen bis zu 2000 oder mehr Lumen. Die meisten normalen Taschenlampen wäre für solche Bilder ungeeignet weil sie selbst in der kleinsten Stufe noch zu hell sind. Im Strobe Modus leuchten die meisten Taschenlampen immer mit voller Helligkeit.

WHAT IS LIGHT PAINTING?

Light painting is a unique form of art. The darkness is illuminate by the artist with diverse light sources and light traces are paint into the picture with various light tools. Various techniques are use, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during the exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. All the pictures were taken during one single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cutting and possibly adjusting the white balance, the pictures are not processed on the computer.
