Enjoying the beauty of cape Kaliakra

Sweet visual memories from a gorgeous walk with some of my friends near the beautiful cape Kaliakra on the shores of Black Sea in Bulgaria.

Kaliakra is one of the most beautiful capes that could be explored on foot.

It also has a well preserved medieval stone castle.

I am pretty sure the name has Greek origin, as "kali" in Greek means "beautiful". Of course, there are many legends related to the cape.

Now-a-days, there is a weather station on it, as it is one of the most Eastern parts of Bulgaria, and also, there is a military base, and that unfortunately, limits the places accessible to the "regular" people. Big parts of the cape are not allowed for pedestrians due to that reason. I can only guess the beautiful views that could've been otherwise seen from the highest point on that piece of land...

I've been there several times, in strong winds and under rains, in the heat of the summer. There are always other people around, visiting it.

That only makes the whole experience even better, as you are going to see from my visual memories below :)

A ticket has to be bought in order to visit the cape with the castle. The price is cheap though.

Then, there is no limit to the time to visit and explore. I've seen people in the summer who remain there for the night as the Milky Way could be then seen with a naked eye and summer nights are just lovely to spend under the starry sky :)

Some special fish hunting equipment, that people have been using for ages, called "dalyan". The fish enters that and cannot exit then gets picked up manually.

"Via Pontica" bird route passes by and has been utilized by wind electric generators. That's not great for the bird migration though. Not at all...

Old big chains protect the tourist from falling down the steep shores.

All the views around are breathtaking, as you can see:

Stone steps proved access to the water downwards.

There is a small Orthodox Christian chapel:

Remains from the medieval castle:

That door into the nothing, may be turned into a wishing well, sort of speak.

And I made a wish... For a greater future of all the people I love and have respect for.

Merry Christmas!

When you mentioned Bulgaria and the Black Sea, I thought you were visiting a place from Turkey. You've come close. Your first picture is really beautiful and impressive. Your more beautiful pictures are like a harbinger of the future. I also love the stone steps. I would like to visit the castle and feel those strong winds. Nice sharing, thank you very much.😊🙏

Thanks, it is my pleasure to share these.
Happy holidays!

Stunning place. Bulgaria must be full of breath taking landscapes. I've only been to Bulgarian mountains but I'd love to go back and explore more. Great photography and story telling, thanks for sharing @lightcaptured :)

Oh, lovely to see you've been around. We have so many mountains, each beautiful in its own unique way. Where exactly have you been?

Thank you and happy holidays!

Some years back I hiked the Pirin mountains all the way up to Vihren! It was gorgeous!!

Me too! Hiked for a couple of days in the same region, I slept in the Sinanitsa hut next to the lake :)
The "rockiest" mountain of Bulgaria, with its unique harsh beauty :)

I too spent the night at the hut! It was full moon - oh dear lord what a wonderful night it was!! Yes yes very rocky but stunning.

Lovely :) I can't remember if there was Moon at all when I was there, but the sunrise on the next morning was really breathtaking!
