Feeling proud(ish) of myself

in Photography Lovers3 years ago (edited)

I'm not one to normally do photography posts as my images are crap, but I couldn't resist today. This is probably considered ok standard (if I'm lucky) amongst all the great photographers here, but I'm feeling very proud of myself as I really like this image.

This is the original unedited image. Awful right?

And this is the one I edited before the final crop. After taking a lot of shots on my mobile phone, this was the best I can do. I don't know if it's possible to reduce the fireball effect from the sun and where that little blue dot at the bottom came from. Maybe I caught it at a bad time of the day, it was about 3.30 pm when I took these images. I played with all the manual settings and used a timer, and this is what I came up with. The rest of the images I took were even worse, so bad I've deleted them all now.

And just to give you all a bit of perspective on the whole scenery. The main image is a marine walkway by the seafront. When the tide comes, the sea will cover the walkway so you have to get your timings right, And if you do manage to get your timings rights, you'll get this stunning view like people are walking on the sea. I was lucky today, by pure chance, I got there at the right time for the sea, but not the sun.

The other thing I couldn't understand is the green reflections. Again, not sure where they came from. I'm thinking if someone else nearby was holding something green and it caught that? Or maybe it was a smudge on my phone lenses? Or perhaps it caught something off my handbag as I used that to prop up my mobile, but then my bag had nothing that was reflective. Weird.

Anyway, I'm pretty chuffed with the image after I cropped it to remove the bits that spoilt it. So figured I'd put it on the chain and leave my mark here. Any comments or advice on how I can improve this would be much appreciated so I can go back and have another go.

I think, you probably can try to take some snaps a little later, when the effect of sun is less - and it will be beautiful as the sky becomes red. May be just half hour to hour will do.

Yes, maybe, I'll try that when it's not so sunny

Oh wow, I want to be there lol great shots! The first edited version is my favourite 🥰 It’s hard to take landscape shots in full sun, or seascape should I say!

Hey!!! Come on down for a photo session!!! Haven't seen you for a long time. Hope things are well with you.

I can't help you much on the photos reflecting green or blue dot. But I am not complaining as I find them quite interesting and worth a shot at several photography contests I know. Since it isn't a travel post perhaps a shadow/reflection hunt entry for some of these pics will give everyone a run for their money.

Thanks @gems.and.cookies, I'll have to do a shadow post one day, I think I have quite a few of them in my archive

Great shot Pauline. Photography is really all about light. Photographers work really hard to be out at the time that will be the best light for what they are shooting, a lot of time that is at sunrise and sunset. Cropping is great too. Taking out the distractions is wonderful. @jarvie once taught a class or part of it on attractions and distractions and I still remember it when I am shooting. How can I attract people to the picture and lessen the distractions, sometimes that has to come in post editing with dropping out the crazy light and really focusing the picture on the beautiful bridge. :)

Sunrise will be out of the question for me because I'm so lazy at getting up early, so I guess I'll have to focus on late afternoon and sunset!

Photography is such an art and technique. so much to learn and remember, and this is what I learnt today How can I attract people to the picture and lessen the distractions . Gonna bear this in mind when I frame my images. Learning little by little from the best!!

Yay I am exciting to see your progress!

Very good editing work, the final picture (I mean the first one) looks really amazing :) I like the perfectly straight lines and the interesting, somewhat artsy composition.

Thank you @phortun, I'm so honoured with your comment😅

You know, photography is not about following the rules and editing to the best standards, it's about the subject and you have done an amazing job! I am literally all about the top shot, like where is it, what are these people doing crossing it, is it a bridge, what that other person doing? Makes me stop and think and that's better than having a professionally edited image! 🏆

Thank you @rimicane for your lovely comment. I'm so glad I managed to salvage something out of the image and turn it into something that I can feel proud of😊
