DIVING EXPLORATION AT SAO NICOLAU

| 🇫🇷 L'exploration sous-marine étant l'activité qui me fait voyager depuis bien des années, je me lance dans le récit de quelques explorations qui sont restées ancrées dans ma mémoire. Attention, j'entends par "exploration sous-marine" l'exploration d'un site de plongée que j'ai cherché, trouvé, et exploré en totale autonomie sans l'assistance d'une structure de plongée commerciale. Je vais commencer par la toute dernière exploration que j'ai réalisée par plus tard que la semaine dernière dernière. Nous sommes ici au Cap-Vert. Un archipel constitué de plusieurs îles, une dizaine, aux géologies toutes différentes. Je travaille sur l'une d'entre elles, faites de plages, de sable, idéale pour les sports nautiques mais perdant tout intérêt lorsqu'on souhaite observer des fonds sous-marins aux eaux limpides et aux tombants vertigineux. Mais comme dit juste au-dessus, les îles du Cap-Vert sont toutes différentes et pleines de ressources. A environ 70 milles nautiques à l'ouest de Boa Vista, une île montagneuse et vide de tourisme propose des fonds sous-marins incroyables avec de grands tombants et une eau bien plus claire. C'est donc sur ce cap que j'ai fait route à bord de mon catamaran... |

| 🇫🇷 Ma destination est le village de Cariçal situé àdans la partie sud-est de l'île. J'y parviens après une navigation de 10h environ. Je pose mon ancre dans un abri que je connais bien car venant ici depuis plusieurs années maintenant. Ici, c'est la tranquilité. 200 habitants au grand max dans le village de Cariçal, et autour rien sur des dizaines de kilomètres. Cariçal est un village qui a prospéré de la pêche durant des années grâce à une fabrique de boite de thon qui a fermé en 2001. Depuis, une grande partie des habitants sont partis, les jeunes ne restent pas, et l'activité de pêche continue dans un cadre famillial. J'y retrouve quelques amis et réserve mes repas de la semaine au seul restaurant communautaire du village. Mon matériel de plongée est prêt, mes appareils photo également, la semaine peut commencer ! | 🇬🇧 My destination is the village of Cariçal located in the southeastern part of the island. | 🇫🇷 Je passe les premiers jours de cette semaine sur un site situé à l'Est du village. Je connais bien ce site et continue à l'explorer un peu plus à l'Est. J'y trouve de nouveaux tombants et travaille sur mon nouvelle équipement de supermacrophotographie. Un matériel composé d'un objectif macro auquel je rajoute une lentille humide jouant le rôle de multiplicateur optique. Au bout de quelques jours, je décide alors de changer de site et de retourner sur un site situé à l'Ouest du village. J'y ai plongé une fois et en garde un bon souvenir. Ce site est une dorsale partant de la côte vers le large et proposant un tombant terminant sur un fond de 25m par un aplomb. J'y ai déjà surpris une raie pastenague et un requin dormeur se reposant à l'abri et sur le sable. Cette première plongée sur ce site est consacrée à la supermacrophotographie. I find new walls there and work on my new supermacro equipment. A material consisting of a macro lens to which I add a wet lens acting as an optical multiplier. After a few days, I then decide to change sites and return to a site located to the west of the village. I dived there once and have a good memory of it. This site is a ridge starting from the coast towards the open sea and offering a drop ending on a 25m bottom at an aplomb. I have already caught a stingray and a sleeper shark resting in the shelter and on the sand. This first dive on this site is devoted to supermacro photography. Here are some photos. |
| 🇫🇷 Je décide finalement de passer à la prise de vue Grand Angle. Et pour cette plongé décide également de visiter une autre partie du tombant que je ne connais pas. Un peu plus à l'intérieur. Je suis alors le tombant sur une centaine de mètres et devine devant moi comme une entrée de grotte. De cet endroit un banc d'une centaine de poissons-chirurgiens se ruent alors sur moi et m'entourent. Si je me prenais à faire de l'anthropomorphisme, je dirais qu'ils sont venus me saluer !! Je m'avance encore et découvre alors un endroit incroyable. Cette entrée de grotte qui n'est en fait qu'un applomb, protège tout un tas d'espèces de grands coraux. Eliselles, gorgones, et autres espèces à tiges que je ne connais pas flottent dans le courant et protègent à leur tour des centaines de poissons. Poissons-soldats, poissons-écureuils, chirurgiens, mérous, poissons-trompettes, tous trouvent ici un abri et peut-être aussi tout comme moi, un paysage à leur goût !! J'y reste de nombreuses minutes en profitant du décor et de la compagnie avant qu'il ne soit temps de remonter. Une très jolie surprise, certain d'être le premier plongeur en scaphandre à avoir visiter ce lieu. Promis, j'y reviendrai ! | 🇬🇧I finally decide to move on to the Wide Angle shooting. I move forward again and then discover an incredible place. This cave entrance, which is actually just an applebut, protects a whole bunch of large coral species. Eliselles, gorgonians, and other stem species that I do not know float in the current and in turn protect hundreds of fish. Soldier-fish, squirrel-fish, surgeons, groupers, trumpetfish, all find here a shelter and perhaps also just like me, a landscape to their liking!! I stay there for many minutes enjoying the scenery and the company before it’s time to go back up. A very nice surprise, certain to be the first scuba diver to have visited this place.
