Long Horned Bee 2

in Photography Lovers3 years ago

About two months ago I had the fortune to photograph a male Long Horned Bee and a few weeks ago was delighted to photograph the female bee. At the time of the first part, I was not sure if the bee was make it female but now being able to compare the two I'm sure of the difference.

A medium sized bee, and the antennae are indeed long compared to honey bees or carpenter bees, but mere nubs compared to the male's
These bees and many others really love the lavender! I do too, it smells very nice!

These are solitary bees and do not live in the familiar hive as do honey bees and many wasps. The females collect pollen which is a rich source of protein, and seal it in a small capsule like chamber with an egg. The grub will use this pollen as its food source, safely inside until it can emerge as an adult. Notice in the picture above, the male bee is not collecting any pollen.

She needs to get every last bit!

I hope you've enjoyed the post! Have a beeautiful day!
