After macro photography one of my favourite things to photograph is Osaka city, particularly at night and or when the weather is bad. While I do love Osaka, it's not at its best at high-noon, a lot of grey and white buildings, and a lot of cement. That all disappears into the shadows once the sun has gone down. I can't wait to get out to the city in the winter months, with crisp air and lights shining like crystals.
With that in mind, I had a brief chance to walk though one of the dense shopping districts in the heart of the city in the evening. Great light but not so many people out and about due to COVID and most entertainment, restaurants, and bars being closed or keeping much shorter hours.
Sometimes you need to look down to look up:
This small puddle remained on the brick paved alley. By themselves, the bricks are ok, but not that interesting, focusing on the reflection on the other hand engineers a "frame" within which you can position something a bit more interesting than a brick!
I tried it again:
A much larger subject and I fear I rushed it a bit, next time I'll be sure to get everything just right before pressing the shutter. I still do like how the electrical lines and utility pole continue the lines and partitions of the bricks in the top corner of the shot.

My favourite parts of this image are that it feels a bit like looking down. The mass of cables is very busy yet not overly chaotic. We even get lamp standing in for the moon!

I bet shinsaibashi is like a ghost town with covid. Love to get back to the old days.
Not quite a ghost town but very close, few Japanese people walking about and nearly zero tourists from overseas. It'll be nice to get things back to where they were before.
I miss that place. Any plans to return back, or too much trouble at this point?
Not sure I follow, I still live in Osaka and though I don't have any plans to go there soon, it is only 30 minutes by train. ;) Most day trips are out of the city, particularly now that it's great weather for camping.
What I meant was return back to Canada.
Ah, I see now. No, not at the moment. Lots of quarantine to deal with now for trips and I'm not really interested in moving back permanently anytime soon. The pics of the mountains are still nostalgic though. :)
