Hike #27: Hiking During Strict Lockdown (Czechia)

in Photography Lovers3 years ago

Welcome to the next episode of photo-series dedicated to hiking adventures. This time I take you to Jeseníky, the mountains range in Czechia. The hike took place during national lockdown when people were not allowed to leave their districts. This had one tremendous effect - normally top busy mountain spots were suddenly deserted, I barely met a living person. I truly enjoyed the quietness back then. Today we can reminisce a bit. Enjoy ;-)

Along Podolský brook.

Now a little collection of footprints. These could belong to a bird.
IMG_20210404_084749.jpg

These may belong to fox?
IMG_20210404_084958.jpg

IMG_20210404_085246.jpg

Looks like duck's footprints?
IMG_20210404_090734.jpg

An old drift.

A charcoal kiln at Hubert's.
IMG_20210404_091749.jpg

Random mini-waterfall.
IMG_20210404_095906_1.jpg

A small dam called Pod Zvoničkou (Under Belfry). Not far from here you can truly find the belfry.
IMG_20210404_100206_1.jpg

IMG_20210404_100330.jpg

Lively ants in their half-frozen anthill.
IMG_20210404_103402.jpg

More footprints. These may belong to some game like deer.
IMG_20210404_102958.jpg

Do not recognize these.
IMG_20210404_103824.jpg

Weather is Okay today, though a bit cold.
IMG_20210404_103057.jpg

Now at protected area Břidličná (translated as Slaty), near a peak Green Stones (1179 m.a.s.l.).
IMG_20210404_104535.jpg

Lovely untouched area.

IMG_20210404_105509.jpg

Still bloody cold :-)
IMG_20210404_112225.jpg

Podolský brook if not mistaken.
IMG_20210404_113952.jpg

Now steep shortcut through the wood.
IMG_20210404_115434.jpg

Finally on the mountain ridge. During normal days, this is a pretty busy spot - Jelení studánka (1311 m.a.s.l), loosely translated as Deer Well. Today heavily covered by snow.

Funny. Almost a year ago (April 2020), it looked like this :-D

Nonindigenous mountain pine occupies local hillsides.

IMG_20210404_124707.jpg

Above Malý Kotel (Little Basin).
IMG_20210404_125622.jpg

Dramatic clouds today.
IMG_20210404_130718.jpg

Wind-lashed pine.

IMG_20210404_131523.jpg

IMG_20210404_131701.jpg

Since pine is not indigenous species in this area, they simply keep removing it. Obtained pine-trash is taken away by a helicopter.
IMG_20210404_132324.jpg

Within view of Praděd (1491 m.a.s.l.), the highest mountain of Jeseníky.
IMG_20210404_133344.jpg

An old border stone dated back to the 17th century.
IMG_20210404_134048.jpg

More views from Vysoká hole (1465 m.a.s.l.), a mountain towering above Velký Kotel (Big Basin) which will be passing through shortly.
IMG_20210404_135044.jpg

Majestic Praděd with a tower. Petrovy kameny, a rock formation, beneath it.
IMG_20210404_135552.jpg

Panoramic shot. On the left, you can see the cut away mountain Dlouhé Stráně which hosts a man-made lake used for hydroelectric pumping power station. Way behind are located another cool mountains - Králický Sněžník.
IMG_20210404_140612.jpg

Bit of wind.
IMG_20210404_142951.jpg

Praděd tower between mountain pines.
IMG_20210404_145355.jpg

Now descending.

Now the big but treacherous basin.
IMG_20210404_151828.jpg

At the beginning of 2021, there was an avalanche which killed a ski alpinist. Today it is safe, no avalanche danger.

Hello
spectacular images and I feel the cold
happy Sunday

Hi there! Happy you enjoy it 😉

Ohhh boy!
What a beauty!
Natur at its best. Right now it is getting hot here and even watching snow calm me down :)
I could say that trip is very similar so some which I did here in Slovenia.
Thanks for sharing and enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

Thanks, Andy!
Nature is beautiful anywhere in the world I bet. Nowadays, traveling is still kind of restricted. Once they ease travelling restrictions, I will definitely document beauty of different country. Maybe one day, it's gonna be Slovenia:-) Have a nice Monday 😉

What a pretty place! It's amazing what winter can do to a place. I like the frozen landscapes and the icicles. The small waterfall was so pretty!

Happy you like it😉 Don't worry, I might still have some cold-hike in my pipeline😄

wow this icicle and the water in it looks amazing ! Great post :)
