Bari - Europe’s door to the Balkans

Bari is the capital of the Puglia region. Located in southern Italy on the Adriatic Sea. The city itself has a population of about 320 000 inhabitants. It is the second most important economic centre of Southern Italy after Naples, a port and university city.

The Murat quarter is known as the modern area of Bari. It is located in the south of town. Here you can find the promenade by the sea. The quarter is also known for its shoping areas.

The old town is located in North. Among many other sites, here you can locate the Castello Svevo, the Basilica of Saint Nicholas and the Cathedral of San Sabino.

The most popular square in Bari is Piazza Mercantile. It is the commercial and administrative center of the city and hosts the city market. The restaurants in the square are the most atractive places to have a delicious dinner. All food-lovers will find exactly what they are looking for on the Piazza Mercantile.

And let's not forget to mention the delicacies, such as eating fresh seafood and fish uncooked. This includes, also mussels, sea urchins and octopus.

The Castello Svevo was built around 1132 by Roger ll during the Norman reign. Its magnificent exterior is currently used for exhibitions.
