We were told that it is a Myrtle tree.

We sat in the shade at a table underneath the tree.

Some very hot days here, and the shade of a tree always welcomes us.

On this day, the tree decided to shower us with some flower confetti, as mother nature knows that we never had a line of people after our wedding service showering us with confetti when we got married long ago. In any case let bygones be bygones and we don't carry the past around every day with grudges, as it was what it was, and nothing can change the past.

A bit of a closer shot.

And so, I picked a bunch of flowers from a low hanging branch to show you.

I was just surprised, that such a big tree could have such small flowers. It was really a gigantic tree.

As a line break, I will use this one below as it is one of my favorite trees, especially with the mountain range in the background.

Now for something else.

Back home and in the garden, I have only noticed now that each of the flower heads have four lines and four flowers in it.
035.JPG

Here below is another one, and it is the same. 4 lines with 4 flowers.
036.JPG

The plant is known as a Christ Thorn, and you can count the flowerhead for yourself. Some are not fully developed yet, but the two pictures above will show you what it looks like when the flowerheads are fully developed.

Many gardeners plant the Christ thorn below their windows to deter burglars.

Now you wouldn't want to run into one of these plants in the dark, as those thorns will never let you go as they are razor sharp and they pierce right through one's clothes, deep into the skin. I had my arm trapped in this one when we were loading the pot for our move, and it was not very good news. Torn shirt sleeve and many little painful bleeding spots on my skin. But we sorted it out with disinfectant and some lotion.
This tree is lovely for shade, and the birds love it, but it is not very practical, as the tiny stamens from the flowers, cascade down from the tree during a strong wind, and then it gets very messy below. The trouble that we have when this happens, is to just make sure that none of the little flowers fall into our coffee:)
Such is life.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.
