I know my friend! All those spectacular levadas... They will have to wait for my next visit :) Our time on Madeira was so desperately limited :( But Funchal is a really lovely city (town). It felt similar to Ponta Delgada from Sao Miguel, just bigger :)
It's always good to leave something unseen, so there's more reaosn to go back. And if you enjoy diving and huge beaches, put Porto Santo on the list too, it's just a ferry ride away!
I know! We heard so much about Porto Santo... I would also love to visit the Desertas Islands, we could see their silhouettes from our hotel :) Next time, Madeira, next time!
I think you need special permit to visit Desertas, Porto Santo is more accessible. Good reason to go back! 😉
Really? I asked out tour guide about it and he said you just need to figure out a boat that will take you there and make sure to leave before the sunset as it´s forbidden to stay there overnight. There is actually just one person living there permanently and that´s the guardian of the island... Sounds like an amazing job btw :)
I researched, and was confusing those islands with Selvagens, other islands also nearby that can only be visited for scientific purposes. So many desert islands, can't keep up! :))) Sorry for misleading you, here's a !BEER
No problem, thanks for the explanation. I heard of those too. But I think they are more often referred to as the Savage Islands. They are actually closer to the Canaries but belong to Madeira. Yeah, so many amazing volcanic islands to be explored in the North Atlantic :)
