Stones have a story for those who learn their Language

Hello Everyone,

Belated Happy New Year to everyone and my First post for 2022.
I'm here to share some beautiful photographs from my one day trip to Santhebennur (South India) which was very close(25 miles) to my place, but it took me 32 yrs to visit. And finally I have these photographs as my best memories.

The highlight of the place is the historic example stone architecture. The history rolls back to 400 yrs when the local ruler defeats the invaders from Bijapur. To mark the victory the ruler Kenga Hanumantappa Nayaka built the Pushkarni and temple of Rama was built. The Pushkarni and the Mantapa (center tower) is built of stone and it is mixture of Indo-Arabic style. The pillars, carvings and towers represent the Indain style and the domes and arches represent the Arabic style of architecture.

Do you also feel the Mantapa is floating on the water ?

Beautiful view of the Mantapa tower in center is also said to hold a water storage for a fountain from the columns and this gives the name as Karangi honda (Fountain Pond). The Honda or pond is build to hold upto 30 feet of water and the center structure is said to be of 5 levels where 2 are immersed in water in the below pictures. The granite stones are used to build the steps and on each side there are 44 stone steps and on the entrance side it has 52 steps.

The history also recorded a new page where the place Santebennur was invaded again in 17th Century and the invaders from Bijapur build a Musafirkhana (A place to rest) on the banks of the pond.

I love the reflections and the calmness. Only to be disturbed when the fishes rush and jump out to grab the food. It is said that the locals maintain the pond and the fishes.
