I don't know how many hours I've been without electricity. For days it's been like this… if we're lucky, they give us power for 2 hours and take it away just as suddenly. But we've been living this movie for years, under promises that "it's temporary," under what they call the "conjunctural situation." Add to that the liquefied gas situation… there is none. For over a year, there has been none… they give many explanations… but the reality is a single one: there is none. I used to cook with electricity… now I can't even do that. When my last gas cylinder ran out, I bought a charcoal stove… hoping I would never have to use it… guess what? Today dawned dark… 30 minutes of electricity during the day… I know there are places where they haven't even turned it on… I made my coffee on my charcoal stove, wondering if what we Cubans are living through today is dignified…. I wonder, while the little coffee strains: how much longer? And I write this while I wait for the laundry… while I watch the cat wondering (I think) as he looks at the stove if I'm preparing something he might be able to eat… and I write this to vent… to entertain myself with something… to show some image of my reality… to record my story.
