Dancing is a beautiful art full of elegance, so it was a no brainer to combine this with Lightainting. So I contacted a fellow photographer who has a lot of contacts in that scene and together we went out with a great dancer for some shenanigans.
Tanz ist eine wundervolle und elegante Kunst, also war es klar das man dies mit Lightainting kombinieren kann. Also habe ich einen bekannten Fotografen aus der Tanzszene kontaktiert und zusammen mit einer talentierten Tänzerin sind wir los gezogen.
Light is a great tool to express movement in a static image. So for the first photo we took a classic ballet pose and enhanced that with light trails to express the movement that would lead to this pose.
Light ist ein wundervolles Werkzeug um Bewegung in einem statischen Bild fest zu halten. Für das erste Foto haben wir also eine klassische Ballet Pose gewählt und mit Licht Spuren erzeugt um die Bewegung dazustellen die zu dieser Pose führt.
Going with classic ballet the term "caged bird" is pretty known there. To visualize this I used a fast strobing light and fiber optic cables to enclose the dancer in a cage out of light.
Da wir schon bei klassischen Ballet waren haben wir uns den dort bekannten Begriff "caged bird" als Inspiration genommen. Um den Käfig umzusetzen habe ich eine schnell blinkende Lampe und ein Glasfaserkabel benutzt.
But there is also a lot of power and fire in dancing. Even in still poses you can just feel the energy contained in the body of ballet dancers. To show this I used a kind of fiber optic "whip" that goes through several red and orange colors on a fast strobe.
Aber es steckt auch sehr viel Kraft und Feuer im Tanz. Sogar in stillen Posen kann man die Energie spüren die im Körper eines Tänzers steckt. Um dies zu zeigen habe ich hier eine Art Glasfaser "Peitsche" benutzt die schnell durch verschiedene Rot und Orange Töne blinkt.
For the end it was time for a grand finale and finally having a dance with light itself. For this a combination of lighting and stencil techniques were used.
Als großes Finale war es Zeit mit dem Licht selbst zu tanzen. Um dies umzusetzen wurden verschiedene Beleuchtungs und Schablonen Techniken benutzt.

Tanzen und Lightpainting passen nicht nur gut zusammen sondern verschmelzen beim malen auch miteinander. Das malen gleicht einer Choreografie welche dem Tanzen gleich kommt.
Das errste Foto gefällt mir aufjeden fall am besten. Sehr dynamisch!
Ganz genau. Oft wirkt das malen mit Licht auch einem Tanz ;)

These turned out very beautiful. I bet having a dancer for a model gives many more options for dynamic poses. Great job!
Thanks and yes, they have amazing body control so can hold still even in very tough poses which is very important for long exposures.

Those are great paintings! My preferred ones are numbers 1 and 3, and especially the third one I must admit. This red light giving the impression to dampen when we go from left to right is just amazing.

Yeah putting some variance in the brightness and density of the light streaks adds a lot of depth.

Thanks. We had many ideas on how to visualize the movement of the dancing but turns out simple techniques like these work best.
