It is summertime in India and also a time to cherish colorful flowers. Today I would like to share vibrant colors from my balcony.
Being from Uttrakhand - a Himalayan state in northern India. From mid-March to mid-April we welcome spring and pray for a good harvest for all of us. we celebrate it with flowers. It is also the first month as per the Hindu Calendar.
In my childhood, we used to collect flowers in the evening and early morning go to houses and put flowers on to doorstep of all the village houses to put flowers. To keep it fresh we used to sprinkle water on it. We also go to the jungle to pluck flowers which can be fresh for many days. We used to go to school early morning, and that was the reason to pluck flowers in the evening. Sometimes we pluck flowers while coming home from school.
This used to be for one month and last day of the festival each house elder used to give some money to all the children. 13th April it used to be a big fair (mela), it used to be Ganga riverside - where all children go together and buy things and eat all kinds of fast food. This happened now also, however, it's been a long time since I have not been there for the fair.
Coming back to the balcony, I love nurturing plants and flowers on my balcony, I use homemade things for plant nutrition and support them to bloom. every morning my first activity is to check all the flowers, water them, and see if they need more attention.
I have 4 types of roses, passion flowers, Bougainvillea, queen of the night, 3 flowers from the jungle, chameli, and 5 to 6 I do not know the name.
I could spend my entire day discussing these plants and flowers for the whole day with everyone, who shares a similar passion for plants and flowers.
I will soon be preparing for winter so that once winter comes flower can bloom in the balcony.
I want two more flowers one is jungli gulab (wild rose) and passion flower in red color. We have a passion flower in purple color and it is a beautiful flower.
Next time I will let all of you know about passion flowers and their variety.
